I don't know if this has been asked before, but it would be nice if the captain had a little more information like a compass and a altitude meter or something like that.

everybody has a compass (its in the top of your screen)
you can see the altitude on the right side of your wheel (the blue weird thing behind your wheel on the right side indicates your alittude)

I must pay more attention to my ship and less on destroying others.

Every day you learn something new.
I, on the other hand, would love some system where the pilot would have at least a vague idea of his guns' line of fire. I know this is mostly a "learn your ship, greasemonkey" -type of situation, but still.

I still spend a bit of time in the Sandbox in order to learn arcs and make sure they overlap on the ship I'm flying. The Sandbox really is a great learning tool.

I also use the sandbox with some frequency, especially after a patch to shake the rust out of my ship designs.
