The Lounge / Re: The most glorious Quotes ever
« on: August 06, 2014, 11:21:07 am »
So with the news that the new patch updated the tutorials, I decided to give them a look, and was reminded of one of my favourite tutorial quotes I've ever seen in a game.

"Crashing is bad"

Yes, Muse. Yes it is. :D

Thanks to whoever wrote those glorious words of wisdom! True genius...

Knowing is half the battle! The other half then, I guess, is "not crashing". ;)

Thanks for the comment! :)

General Discussion / Re: Oculus Rift support in the future?
« on: June 25, 2014, 12:42:17 pm »
Has anyone else had any luck with the VIREio thing?

The youtube video certainly looks like it is formatted correctly for the Oculus, but when I tried it with the devkit here, it either displayed normally or crashed the game on start.

If anyone gets this working, please let me know what steps you took, and include which version of VIREio you tried and your computer set up (especially video card model and driver).

Thanks :)

General Discussion / Linux Users: How are the mouse controls?
« on: June 18, 2014, 03:45:20 pm »
There have been some issues with getting the mouse sensitivity on Linux "just right". Something either with Linux OS or the way Unity receives/processes input from Linux doesn't work quite the same way as on PC, so we have a special case for handling mouse input on Linux.

We've recently gotten a few e-mails regarding this, and we'd like to get more feedback. If you are a Linux player, how are the mouse controls? Are they too sensitive/not enough/just right? Have you noticed any changes in the past few months?

Thanks everyone :)

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: [Suggestion] Manual Starts Unlocked

Hi Chundleford, thank you for your feedback.

I agree! I brought this up when evaluating the new player learning experience, and it should be happening... at some point in the future ;) Thanks for the reminder though, I will talk to Eric about it again.

Also, please feel free to e-mail suggestions to feedback@musegames.com.

Guten Tag, Schwerbelastung!

I am currently revising the tutorials. Several of the issues you mention are already being addressed. Some of the others I had not yet considered, thanks for the suggestions! I would like to go over things in more detail, but we are getting ready to go to PAX (where some of the new tutorials can be seen 8) ).

General Discussion / Re: Tutorial Survey

Can you refer to this mr. Lenin sir? please don't hit me *ducks and covers*

No need to duck and cover! :) I don't see every forum post, and this is certainly relevant to the discussion. There are some interesting ideas in that thread.

I am happy to say that a lot of the points that were brought up are things that we have already been considering. I am *also* happy to have read some points that we hadn't considered. For instance, I personally prefer more interactive tutorials - but if some people prefer videos I'd like for that option to be available.

Thanks again to everyone for your input!

General Discussion / Tutorial Survey
« on: February 06, 2014, 03:25:23 pm »
Hello Guns of Icarus Online!

In the interest of smoothing out the learning curve for beginners and providing all of you veterans more challenging opponents to blast out of the skies, we are taking a look at revising the tutorials.

We've discussed several things in the office, and I have my own ideas about what needs to be changed and updated, but I'd also like to hear some other perspectives. Therefore, I'd appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to fill out this survey.

Guns of Icarus Online Player Tutorial Survey:
  • What level are you? (Gunner/Engineer/Pilot)
  • How many matches have you played?
  • Have you played the current tutorials already?
If you have not, please play them. If you have already and have time, please play them again to refresh your memory. It took me about 15 minutes to play through all of them.
  • Were any of the tutorials too long?  Please specify.
  • What did you like most about the tutorials?
  • What did you find confusing about the tutorials?
  • What was your biggest misconception about how the game works when you first started playing?
  • What was your biggest misconception about how the game works after you finished the tutorials?
  • Are there any important concepts that new players should know, but the Tutorials do not mention?
  • Have you read the in-game manual?
  • Did you know that the in-game manual is expanded as you unlock new Achievements?
  • Please leave any other comments or suggestions regarding the Tutorials, educating new players, or the first time player experience.

Thanks in advance, and happy flying! :)
