just announced in playstation's gamescom conference.
-
Wow... did not see that coming!
-
:D
-
Ditto. I was like "Oh wow look at all these neat indie games...wait did they just say Muse games?"
-
yeah when they announced unity support i was like hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. then they had a bunch of pictures up of indie devs and i was like heyyyyyyy i recognize that sexy guy......... and then it was announced and i was like AHHSDAQGAJDSGHASDJGHAHKFDHASDHFHASEGH WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT :D :P

Is it gonna be full AM or just skirmish?
-
Is it gonna be full AM or just skirmish?
That is actually a very interesting question.
-
I wonder if our stats would transfer over.
Good to see that Muse is sticking their fingers into the new consoles.
-
I'm really excited for this, it'll open up a whole new player base! But one the other hand, I hope this won't change too much for the PC version.
-
I wonder if it'll be cross-compatible with the PC version... Hopefully, or else we'll end up with a weirdly split up community.
-
One of the main things I'm concerned about, is how it will change the community. The PS4 player base is huge and has a higher frequency of people being jerks. Muse is gonna have to implement some huge anti-trolling strategies.
-
Solution: Feed CAs more free costumes.

Playstation community is still better than Xbox by a country mile. But yes, Muse would have to do something to control the trolls.
-
What an opportunity for Muse and what a challenge for CAs!
-
Yep. Looks like some CAs are gonna have insane mod powers.
-
I've always been a console gamer at heart, but I was on the edge of buying a PS4.
If our accounts are cross-compatible, I'm getting one for sure.
YOU HEAR THAT SONY? YOUR INDIE PROPAGANDA IS WORKING.
-

*Finding this thread*
First thought: "Oh sweet, opening up GoIO for the console community!"
Second though: "Oh.. ... ...opening up GoIO for the console community -.- "
-
Oh my, this could end badly.
-
Let's be optimistic here. Guns of Icarus is an amazing community and let's keep that spirit and be welcoming of Playstation players, and maybe transform them as well. It's not like all the COD people who are assholes play on consoles and everyone else plays on PC. It's the simple fact that our community is awesome, not that the internet isn't mean and nasty.
-
Well, I guess it's decided now. I'm buying a PS4.
-
oh yeah, as Keon said, it's still a great thing that they're able to expand over to different platforms. The future looks bright!
-
The more the merrier, I have stayed out of the console market for a while because I can't work a FPS with a game pad. Hopefully the new players will be less ham handed than I. While GOI isn't as twitch based as some FPS's it does require a great deal of precision and smoothness which I am not sure a thumb stick can provide.
-
All right, so it will support cross-platform play!
*braces for gargantuan player influx*
-
Well...
looks like I will sign up to be a CA after all...
...only got like...2 full weeks of work left...
As cool as it is, my only fear will be that large console community trying the game for five minutes, deciding they hate it because they haven't fully played it, and then going out to discredit this game.
-

Some PS3 games support mouse and keyboard gameplay. I use my mouse and keyboard to play Dust 514.
Assuming the same support carries over to the PS4 and the Unity support is universal I would not be surprised to see mouse and keyboard supported in the PS4 version of GoIO
-
Wow. This is insane. Huge news, massive congrats to Muse, and to my fellow CAs ... put on your big-boy pants ... shit's about to get crazy. :D
-
Shit's always crazy, it's just going to get crazier.

I think the coolest thing about it is the use of steam on playstation can be used for cross platform play

Steam on PS? I don't have a playstation but that sounds cool.

Hello there! My sources (Howard) have answers to many of the questions you folks have posted. However, in the interests of not miscommunicating the specifics, I think it best if we leave it to the Muse team to give us the full details if and when they want to. Speaking of which, these questions will most likely be answered in the Fireside Chat this week, so adding your questions to the appropriate thread would be a good idea.
Cheers, and look forward to the Chat!
-
Also from my side, Congrats to yall and it's really cool to see you guys up there together with so many great indy developers. Keep the way you are!
-
Also like Wazulu said, ask all your questions to muse in
Dev Fireside Chat (https://gunsoficarus.com/community/forum/index.php/topic,2087.0.html)

You'll be saying the opposite when the Coddies attack in force. We already get some spill over of bottom feeders right now but when you suddenly have a massive console community...its like Zombieland except you can't double tap and the Twinkies are all gone!!
-
Super excited for this, it's a huge opportunity for Muse and I'm looking forward to watching the community grow. Definitely great news that it'll be cross-platform with the PC version, wouldn't want to divide the community.

Wow. I see we're all super optimistic.

I'm both looking forward to and dreading this. In my experience, console players (especially with the PS3) are less likely to own a mic. I guess this explains why the command wheel voice chat simulator (TM) thing is being made.

More or less concerned.....
But we've gone through waves of CoDYOLOSwaggins before...
This one is just going to be the boss wave in comparison....

Boss wave?
This should help us hold out.

I'm not saying this is a bad move for Guns, I'm just saying...I canceled my XBL sub for one reason, these types of players. Things got worse and worse and it started to cross over into other games. Went from a rare moment of seeing one of these players every now and then, to it being every match played filled with them. We are going to need a plan to deal with them set in advance or the community is just going to be ripped up.
Now the only good thing I can say about it is, PSN gamers did not garner the level of notoriety in this area as XBL gamers. Honestly never used my PS3 for multiplayer but I had a lot of friends who were cross platform players and they said they noticed the difference. With M$ bumbling Xbone we could be seeing a shift towards PS4 so that could completely change things.

Of course, one thing you need to consider is, would the kind of players that we all dread tainting the community even be interested in playing GoI in the first place?
-
Even if the that type of player were to play GOI they don't stick around for long. Better yet Muse has their money which they can spend making better content for the rest of us. Recently there was a thread stating the 250000th user account was created. How many of those people played GOI found it not to their liking and left? They might post a "This game needs boarding so it can be more like COD" but the impact they have on the community is negligible.
-

^this. you guys and gals seem to be freakin out about the stereotypical "CoD player" ruining the community. but the kinds of people that will be interested in guns of icarus are not those people. now the odd "CoD player" will probably pick up the game and thats great. but people not interested in co-op play will not stick with a co-op game.
-
Not so negligible as you'd think. Yeah they are a small fraction of the community but their behavior even for a brief time can make or break the experience for others. Now I thought I read somewhere that Guns will be on the PS+ program so it will be free to play. This is great and terrible at the same time. Get a potential huge player pool but also more players like this could and would load it up for shits n giggles, and of course finding ways to troll.
So say just 1% of the population is this mentality, that is still 2500 players too many. If each one trolls or is abusive in 5 matches a day, that does add up and there would be potential for him to affect 7 others each time. Granted their time here may be short but players scorned by these types of people do not come back easily. You can bet the lowbie matches would be filled with them. New players do not have the knowledge to look for high level matches and would quickly quit/uninstall when treated to this.
Going into AM and really building on the life of this game will be affected by these kinds of people. Now do we want it to be like Chivalry where every match there is a kick vote for TKing every few seconds, no. But we're going to need something so it will be detrimental for these sorts of players. Better to have them quit and go back to the cesspool where they spawned than for new players to quit. People are more often to report negative experiences to more people than they are positive. I've worked in theme parks and I'm very familiar with it.
CoD players have and will play this game. Lot of them are looking for something different to play. Remember the age of most of these players is young, they are growing up and desiring different play styles. Trouble is, their behavior has not changed. I've seen them in game already. They are around.
-
It won't be f2p. There you go, no need to worry about that.
-

Honestly, I'm excited to have new players, and I think everybody else will be too. If they start getting horrible, we'll handle them. Not before. If this is a problem, I don't know what to say.
-
Well even though it won't be F2P, I can still agree quite a bit with Gilders sentiment. Better be prepared for a potentional threat than letting it catch us with our pants down. Even though your main console kiddies won't touch it, you're still gonna see a general increase in trolls and similar. It'll be interesting to see how much though.
-
More players > no new players.
Don't care how much you wanna whine about trolls, for a game like this to continue to grow and expand you'll just have to deal.
-
oh indeed, any increase is still a victory. That however doesn't mean we can't be better prepared for the bad apples of that new wave.
-

I mean, prepare how? Metaphorically pucker your butthole or....
Sorry, just don't get the point of the statement.
-
Obviously, I can't go into detail about moderation things here, but there's a couple of things I feel we need to fix before opening up the PSN gates. Things that'll make us better prepared for the likely increase in "trouble" that happens when a game grows.
EDIT: and sorry, I probably wouldn't have needed to post here in the first place..
-
As long as Muse keeps on doing a good job managing reports of inappropriate behaviour it will be fine.
Seriously, I've never met the same troll twice after reporting it. And I like to think that this is feature and not a coincidence... :P
-
Steam on PS4, I have not kept up to date with all of this new console tech, but does that mean that I on my computer will be playing with some one on a console? As for the discussion about "CoD type players" entering our community, it is up to us CAs and the other good people in the community to do our best to stamp out foul behavior and show people how unacceptable that behavior is for this community. All hopeful thinking of course, we will have to see how things develop.
-
but does that mean that I on my computer will be playing with some one on a console?
Yes, it'll be totally cross-platform. From what I understand that was an important factor in choosing to go with PS4—the fact that it wouldn't be split into two separate games.

Well, that means we should be seeing a much larger player base, and good thing Controllers do not have Keyboards to type in global. (Even though I would assume there will be a system so they can pull up a keyboard and type, just will be slow on a controller)

They probably still have mics to shout over.
If I were to deny consoles this games, it would be for the reason that they are using controllers rather than mouse and keyboard and are unlikely to function properly within the context of the game. Their behavior is not limited to PS*, nor is it limited to Xbox*, quite frankly, we have idiots already and lets not forget that they already paid for this game, so whether the game is f2p or not has no effect either.
You guys are going through all the motions dota has went through and it ended with Valve making a mute system that doesn't really work (Well played!!) and a matchmaking system that has left the community in shambles. As such, I really think it is important that we seriously look at misbehavior (outside of the context of this thread) and start to look for ways to deal with it properly. It means that for each community problem we have, we look at the source of the problem and deal with that rather than that rager that went beserk as a result of it.
As mentioned in another thread, last weekend's shift of idiots has been the worst so far and my experience tells me it will only get worse and worse and worse until this game is unmanageable by Muse developers and full rage mode ensues. I'm not going to say that Muse is doing a bad job so far; as a matter of fact, I'd wish more developers were as involved with their community. But everyone has their limits and noone wants to put a team full time on policing the community.
-
If you want you could give me immunity from reports and I could sort out all your problems for you.

I don't know if the PS4 will have it, but you can definitely connect a USB or Bluetooth keyboard to the PS3. I've done it before to type in MGO. I predict that most PS4 GOI players won't have a keyboard, but that won't stop determined troublemakers from either connecting their own or finding other ways to annoy us.

There are a LOT of mics on PSN. I still remember the last time I was on there *shudders*

CAs, reporting for duty. This is what we became CAs to do, to moderate the community and make sure everybody has the best time possible. And it's what we'll keep doing.

How are you going to maintain a playerbase of 50000 concurrently active players? I don't mean any offense, but at some point you will not keep up anymore with the outstanding issues. Furthermore, I prefer preventive (uninterruptive) measures over damage control.

I'm sorry, you said there was a weekend of ragers? Where was this?

No, I said there was a weekend full of trolls. I'm the rager.

I just saw this article on Yahoo:
http://games.yahoo.com/blogs/plugged-in/playstation-4-launch-lineup-revealed-190227025.html (http://games.yahoo.com/blogs/plugged-in/playstation-4-launch-lineup-revealed-190227025.html)
showing 22 games that are going to be available on the PS3's launch. GOI is not on it. While I am a happy PC user and will probably not own the console it saddens me that we will not get the massive influx of people for being one of the few PS3 games available on launch day. I trust Muse to make this game the way they see fit, and if that doesn't involve including all those console players who wait in the cold for a day 1 release so be it.
