The Cantina / Re: The Legend of Sectoidor
« on: June 26, 2015, 03:17:02 pm »
Sectoidor's terror couldn't have been more intense and yet it's been upgraded as the pink creature mutters something and thrusts black liquid toward Sectoidor.  Sectoidor mutters something back.

Sectoidor:  "From green poison to black poison.  What have I done to deserve this.."

Sectoidor teleports a few times away from the pink terror in horror and enters an area of what seems to be a bustling alien civilization.  Sectoidor turns on invisibility cloak and winces at the battery level.

Sectoidor watches in terror behind a boulder as its mothership is dismantled by an unsightly creature, crazed by some sort of alien bloodlust.  Sectoidor touches its wrist, and its wrist is encompassed by a faint purple light.

Sectoidor:  "MAY DAY! MAY DAY!  BOTH MOTHERSHIPS DOWN!  MAY DAY!

(Alright Koali deserves a salute for unrelenting friendliness)

(Sectoidor):  "Beam me down Scotty!"

As soon as Sectoidor's feet felt the ground it fled in absolute terror from the mysterious pink creature without a butt that somehow destroyed a mothership, teleported into the second one, and somehow wiped off a scar as if it was a smudge.

I didn't need 1 week to know.  All I needed was a second to glance over at the number of active players online to know that the game is barely afloat.  If there are so few player base during a Steam summer sale for $3 and change, well now, it speaks volumes doesn't it?  Then there's this forum.  It's dead.  I've been messing around in the The Cantina section because it's by far the most active part of this forum.  Basically no one's talking about this game except for ole' faithful hardliners that keep singing praises while the ship is sinking and hardcore role players reminiscent of D&D.  By the way despite my mild trolling I'm quite fond of these role players.

Anyway I standby my forecast.  If this game stays its course it'll hit a cliff somewhere and no one will be there to pick up the pieces.  As a successful business owner I know that criticism is more important than praises.  It pays to face the reality and do something while there's still time.  Who knows, co-op & adventure mode might just do that.  We shall see.

This game has been going at roughly the same number of players for quite a while now. All I know is you are incredibly annoying, you've already had a post about being done with game (Already Bored). Be done.

I wonder if you realize you've all but proved my point.  You find me annoying because you know I'm right, and it bothers you that I'm writing the truth.  Successful entrepreneurs do not face the other way, they face the truth and overcome.  Muse definitely has the right idea, but it's still a long way from striking gold and it's got to do it soon before the "steam" generated from summer sale tapers off.

Well, good luck.  Be sure to stay afloat, because this game's balloon has been losing its air and that engi better be good in keeping the game afloat.

Muse should look at the big picture.  There aren't many players that play this game, which means they've got to do something different or enhance it, and I believe it's the latter.  It doesn't have to be what I suggested, but the game's got to ride whatever momentum it has in order to breach deeper into the money pie.  If not, it'll just go straight to the grave of games, along with its lore loving hardcore fans.

As it is the game lacks individuality.  Everyone seems to be more or less the same.  Sure the ships are different, skill sets that each player brings are different as well as strategies involved as a result.  Is that enough?  I don't know for other players but it sure isn't for me.  More in-depth attribute/skill customization would add depth to this game in a way that would benefit the developers many folds.  Take a poll on this to see what the community response is.

I have to say, my trolling in Catina was hilariously enjoyable.  Thanks Carn for getting me there!

When Sectoidor comes to, there is a pink creature without a butt holding a cup.  Sectoidor concludes that this pink creature wants to probe.  Sectoidor shudders at the sight of apparent cup of poison and jumps back.

(Sectoidor):  "Beam me up Scotty!"

Sectoidor is now safe inside another Mothership and orders Death Ray to be readied to exterminate all life forms on the planet Sectoidor was on.  Sectoidor then notices something.  There is a lightning scar on its forehead.

Gameplay / Re: Novice mode

So far so good.  No teacher and winning more than I lose.  I've had success with sniping Spire and Goldfish so far, more with Goldfish.  As mentioned in previous posts I was mindful of terrain and game mechanics.  With Goldfish I go in heavy and fast, first run is usually a strafe.  I try to flank as much as I can and also rotate front gun with port/starboard guns depending on whether I want to take out the shield of disable them.  If I'm the focus of firepower I run and blow out the engines to halfway or 3/4 and use terrain/cloud as cover to lose spotting or simply block enemy attacks.  I can't always run but I usually do.  While I run my allies are attacking them from behind and depending on the situation I'd turn around and join the fight all of sudden.  Against Spires I fly high and attack their balloons first, against others I try to fly low and encircle them.  Against Mobula I try to flank/disable them.  I know how annoying that can be, having been inside Mobula many times as an engineer.  With Spire I ask teammates to let the enemies come to us, rather than us to them and snipe away.  I did lose when enemies came through cover and somehow ended up flanking us.  I can't believe no one spotted them until they were in our face.  Anyway this game is turning out to be a lot easier than I had anticipated.

Thanks but I'm not looking for a teacher.  I mainly wanted hit lvl 8 with my pilot before I get past the Novice mode so that people don't leave the game just because I'm level 3.  Maneuver is VERY easy compared to other games so it's mainly about knowing the arcs and ranges of guns and the strengths/weaknesses of ships.  Rest is just getting used to it and even the first flight was an overkill.  Thankfully there are plenty of resources posted online that enabled me to do well so far. :)
