Community Events / Role of CAs in training?

Just asking for a clarification - what is expected of CAs regarding taking part in training sessions?

Live fire training for players level 1-3 with post match debriefs for crews to discuss weapons, ammo load outs, pilot tools, tactics and player Q&A. Pick up pro tips and flatten out that learning curve.

Sign up here or in-game - as always experienced players are welcome to join as crew advisors.

As always looking for experienced players to crew with a ship of level 1-3s.

I'll be online around 15 mins prior to start time to set up the holding lobby feel free to drop by and offer your services. The session usually runs for a couple of hours, but don't worry if you can't stay or if you join in after the session has started, I say it every time but it's great to see vets rally round and help those that ask for it.

Website and Forum Issues / Searching the forums
« on: August 20, 2013, 08:50:55 pm »
I can only get the forum search function to find anything by inserting a single term, phrases (even if I know they exist) or multiple keywords all draw blanks.

What am I doing wrong?

Gameplay / Calculating distance

So this is irking me  - how to measure distances in matches.

I realise this will be a contentious issue, however I think it needs to be talked about as it is potentially also a divisive issue as regards the community, by saying which I'm not attempting to use weasel words to lend my post gravitas, but rather to say it has come up in conversations I've had with various people prior to and after the patch, (whom I don't feel entitled to speak for) and I've seen one other poster, besides myself, voice the same concern in these forums.

Namely:
People are looking at the changes to the mercury, then competitive play styles and concluding there is a link. How anyone could get that idea is fairly easy to explain:

There area numerous threads in the forums either specifically about mercuries being used in competitive matches or mentioning them being used.

There are the threads concerning testing in the Dev App and point to who is giving feedback, though I will temper this by also pointing out not everyone who has the dev app posts feedback, those that do are merely the most motivated

I also ask that the discussion remain respectful.

Gameplay / Surprise Changes affecting heavy carro
« on: August 13, 2013, 07:12:14 am »
Was on a carronade for the first time since the update - it was quite suprising.

Usually I take lesmok, burst and greased - lesmok in a carronade as mentioned in the beta app thread now only has 1 round, it's playable. The surprising thing was greased was out ranging burst in range to effectiveness. It's like they've swapped range profiles.

As always any help is greatly appreciated from either experienced players or CAs.

General Discussion / this really irritated me
« on: August 11, 2013, 04:27:30 am »
I was looking for something else and came across this review

http://gamingtrend.com/game_reviews/guns-of-icarus-review-flying-low/

It's not the low score that irked me, it's stuff like this

Quote
Gunnery in this game is fairly straightforward–point your gun or rocket launcher at the enemy until they explode into splinters–but there is a bit of depth as well.
Well gosh did you actually try asking about anything before forming your opinion on "quite a bit of depth"?

Quote
the hwacha, a korean multi-rocket launcher that sends 20 explosive darts toward your target. It’s an absolute blast to fire, and watching a dozen explosions blossom on your target’s hull is really gratifying.

Ahh I guess not.

I get that reviewers won't announce their presence for that gonzo feel, and yes this is from around 9 months ago, but he doesn't have a clue what the game is actualy about, yet he feels he can judge the game play.

This is similar to the video doing the rounds on the forums where a captain curses a youtuber out for spawning in as a 2nd gunner on a goldfish - the youtuber did the classic "OK I've done the tutes, now I'm an expert", all that was missing was that he bring the buff hammer.

Not having coloured chat is a blessing at times but not when making announcements in General chat, if any CAs are on at that time I'd like some help in pre announcing the session, and to anyone around at that time I'd like to have 1 experienced player per ship if possible.  As always thanks in advance for help.

thread up also up on the steam hub

I ran one of these about a week ago and it was quite successful - I'd love some help as trying to run a 2v2 is like grabbing a bar of wet soap at times :D

Also by sheer chance one of the players involved in the last one took screenshots - given how much people like to see themselves in game related media I think it's a good way to advertise what we're doing on the steam hub.

I'd also like to share some things I've learned running these

1) use Form Crew - if undermanned this gets round the problems of "Go! GO! GO!"ers trying to hijack the match and players joining expecting a regular match - caveat though - on a busy session you can end up with 4 crews but you'll have to leave the crew formation lobby to set up a 2v2 - make sure everyone is on the same page about how to join the 2v2

2) Use party chat for the captains - allows you to cross comm during matches - ideally getting everyone on party chat is a good idea but isn't sustainable over several matches as people leave and join the match without significantly bogging down the proceedings.

btw how can I get trainer level access to the Steam group?
