Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Engineers, Gunners, and Pilots, I now bring up the age-old topic of kicking.
Many group Kicking with Boarding, saying it will "Break the game mechanics" or "dis-inspire teamwork."
I strongly disagree.
I would like to preface this thread with three pieces of evidence as to why kicking is a necessity.
I invite you all to mindlessly support me with evidence of your own.
1) New people: Why should I bother training new people when a kick function will replace them with a more experienced crewmen in twice the time, with less than half the work?
Common, people, this point is just basic math.
2) Annoying others: We all know that there is no greater pleasure in this world than causing pain and frustration to another human being for no particular reason. Now, imagine with me, if you would, a situation where the Captain is taking his role WAY to seriously. As in, like, welcoming people to his ship, giving orders, or even going as far to start some sort of clan or something. Now, in the heat of battle, kick the poor guy outta the lobby and crash the ship into the ground.
You'll be able to feel the rage through the Global chat.
3) Finally, I present you all with the highest quality recording of one of today's FINEST minds in relation to "kicking."

Whenever someone talks about needing a kick mechanic, all I hear is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMNJuSl91qY

I disagree with points 1, 2, and 3. Maybe I'm not supposed to take this thread seriously but, I personally like being a serious captain. I enjoy welcoming crew to a ship because it's nice for immersion. also the community is what comes first and foremost, training newbies is something of a task we should all undertake at least a bit. To make sure we keep growing and getting more new players, perhaps they will be experienced soon enough with our help. Also you just blatantly want to troll by kicking a captain who may or may not be an amazing pilot. If you kick pilots off their ships then you don't deserve to sit on their ship either.
-
I'm going to make this point here, this is the pit, nothing is serious here.
-
Eh well. Still, I take things like that kinda serious. I could understand perhaps trolling with a weird ship or something but honestly kicking would ruin the game.
-
My apologies if I sounded serious in my post btw, I meant it in jest, too :P
-
Yes. This is ALL in jest.
Sort of my tounge-in-cheek way of saying how kicking is like boarding:
We only get it if we donated 10 mil to the Kickstarter.
I tried to solidify my joking tone with calling Patrick a "great mind" but no worries.
I'm a serious captain myself, and all those examples in point two were pointed at me. (Cake clan is recruiting!)
We've actually made it part of our mission in Cake to help new guys, and I've done quite a few training runs.
I agree with everything you said, as that whole first post was so heavily coated in sarcasm, you could swim in it.
Hard to convey that with text, though.

Kirk next time we get in game together I'm calling you Picard just for the sake of it.

Call him Janeway, I'm sure that'll go over well :D

Where would Archer get us?

This is like when Shink took my nerf WASD thread seriously.

To be fair, you were new to the forum.

Where would Archer get us?
Gentlemen, take your pick.

Well, except for number 8.
-
You forgot sabotaging the other team by transferring mentally defective players onto some one else's crew. Not only should we be able to kick crew members we should be able to pick which ship we kick them to. That way powder monkeys learn how hated they are when they are bounced around a lobby like some sentient hot potato.
-
Choosing a ship might get a little time-consuming.
Maybe the monkey can automatically be put in "Quick Match."
-
There is always time to burden another captain with teaching a powder monkey.
-
Well, except for number 8.
Awwwww.... but..... Number 8 :(

Still it was quite funny.

I don't know man, 8 is pretty badass.

"What type of ammo should I bring?"
"Greased"
"Alright"
*kicks gunner*
"Why did you do that?"
"Any gunner should know that burst is a better ammo type for these guns"
"But you told him to bring greased"
"And so I did. Hey can you bring a buff hammer to buff the engines?"
"As long as you don't kick me."
"Of course not, you're a valuable player."
"Alright, buff hammer it is."
*kicks engineer*
"Why would you do that???"
"Because we don't need a buffer."
"But you told him to bring a buff hammer!"
"I was testing him and he failed."
"Well how do I stay on this ship?"
"You don't"
*kicks second engineer*
"What on earth? Now we don't have anyone to play with on our teams."
"We don't need anyone."
"I disagree."
*kicks fellow captain*
"What are you doing kid, you're ruining the game for us."
*kicks everyone from the other team away*
Nobody wants to play with me. I quit.
*leaves*

And then you farm achievements.
See? The best part of this game is working with what you got.
-
Instead of kicking in the traditional sense (remove from server), Muse should implement kicking in a more physical sense (applying one's foot violently). That way if you want to kick some one off the guns you give them a swift punt in the rear and send them flying off the ship. If they are lucky enough to land on another ship they can crew for those guys, otherwise the kicked player can spend the rest of the game watching the action from the ground.
-
Seriously, get a plank up in here!
-
I like the idea of kicking players, there's some pros and also cons to it. But why bother standing the trolling of bad players when a swift kick will suffice? Just wish we could "kick" them outta the ship...loved to see the body falling down into the canyon below, eh.
Also, how do yall get that little clan tag below yall's "salute" button...that thing in bracket above the levels?

In game, social tab, under your name, click Change.

Seriously, get a plank up in here!
The Goldfish has two planks.
Some idiot just put guns on them.

See, this is why we can't have nice things.
-
If we had a kick system, I would def need to kick myself a lot.
Just to be fair.
"This is the ship Guns deserves, but not the one it needs right now." *self kick*

If only more noobs would be as considerate as Plasmarobo. Perhaps Muse could implement some Darwin award mechanic for removing ones self from the player pool in the most entertaining manner. There was this one kid who swore up and down that he was a "leet sniper" yet couldn't hit the hull on a Galleon because he refused to compensate for shot drop.
