General Discussion / Re: I am Elite
« on: July 28, 2014, 09:42:42 am »
Heh heh. I wonder what happens wit Spud when he's drunk.  ;)

Anyways about people with low levels or low match count. I try to be polite and courteous, I really do. But if it's a whiny pre-teen my mood sours pretty quickly. Yelling "ready up" for 5 minutes straight while everyone's trying to get their ship together really kills my good intentions. Trolls are a special case, they're all irritating in different ways. Heck even the jerk that brings nothing but lochnar and extinguish, chem, buff hammer because he has no idea what he's doing and refuses to change his loadout or listen.

Still, if I find that rare low level player who's willing to listen and actively tries to learn then I think I can stop playing for the day and leave happy. In fact, I really should get around to inviting a number of people to practice since they surprised me so with their skill which did not match their level.

General Discussion / Re: If you were a Game Modder.

I would most likely go about modding the UI to my heart's content. Creating custom maps and game-mods is something I'd mod if I could too. And don't forget, mod in LAN support so we can finally have private tournaments without all that somewhere through the internet server nonsense.

Bad crew ends poorly regardless of the ship or pilot. The best a pilot can do is minimize the damage.

Thats exactly what I said.../facepalm
Oh, sorry if I didn't understand your meaning while reading your explanation and elaboration.

Noobs are fine on squids as long as the pilot doesn't fly stupid with it. If they aren't competent on it then you can simply just avoid combat till you have the advantage. In 2v2s it means letting your ally take the brunt of the assault. Which means your ally will hate you but theres not much you can do. If you engage you'll die faster and it will be a loss either way. If you take another ship and they can't handle it, same result. So in cases where the crew is extremely weak, just needs the pilot to make up for them. Only ship that can do that is the Squid and even then its not good enough.

Burst Gatling does actually more damage per clip than greased... with no range reduction...
Yes, but what about the DPS? And don't tell me Burst makes Flamethrower's deal more damage too.

*remembers several games of engi-ing on ships with a high level pilot while he yelled at the lvl 1 gunner putting Burst and Heavy Clip into everything*

When I have to choose between burst and normal rounds for flamer, I am going with burst. It hits way more (it does make a difference once you know how big these ships actually are) and if you wanna have 20 stacks of fire really quickly it only takes around 0.4 seconds longer, and if I remember correctly you do outlast chem spray with the burst flamer.

And do contribute to the thread: A captain of a double flak pyramidion refusing to accept the concept of piercing damage. In the end he was begged into using double gatling so his ally could at least make some kills with the piercing support. He lost and then complained that witwh flaks everything would have gone better.
What I find amusing if that's the case is how many high lvl and experienced captains beg their newbie crew to use vanilla rounds if they brought nothing but bursts. I guess they're all about the fastest way possible. Time is quite valuable.

Not worth expending the time and energy to try and explain things when half the time they won't understand anyways till they experience it. So I change my ship to one I'm more confident with keeping alive without their help. Or one they can't screw up. Flamer/Mort Squid is a great example of this. You can't very much screw up a flame thrower and the mortar requires a target in front of it to get angle so they can't sit there on the gun doing nothing. Bout the only thing you need to talk to them about is if one of them takes something like buff, extinguish, chem.
The moment you mentioned "squid" and "noob" together all I see disaster. What's that? You have hull armor? Nope, no one's on the hull!!! *ship explodes*

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Spotting mines
« on: July 21, 2014, 02:44:25 pm »
You know, I sometimes wish I could see just my team's mines at the very least. It'd make holding that hill a lot less of an explosion fest. Even a tiny marker letting the guy shooting the mines know which mines are in which order would be nice. Of course, if this is intentionally left out to increase the skill curve for more interesting MLG matches... huehuehueheue

Feedback and Suggestions / Re: Display friendly ships option?
« on: July 21, 2014, 02:35:58 pm »
Why not have green boxes for allies, and red markers for enemies?

I think those are pretty universal friendly/enemy colors, and no newbie is going to get that confused.

Esp with how ridiculous these new ship paints are - so many people paint blue team ships with a red balloon, and vice versa - and lets be honest the balloon is usually a lot more prominent than the pennants they fly.
You can only imagine how ridiculous it'd be if you ever got 3-4 teams fighting at once.

A very nice idea. Too often I find my fellow captain shooting at me when they mistake my ship for the enemy. It would also be nice to be able to see your teammates outline through terrain just like you can see spots through terrain.

"...grab a guff hammer"

"you mean buff hammer?"

"yeah you'll be guff engi"

"It's buff engi!"

"just shut up and guff the balloon dammit!"
