Does anyone else in this community LARP? :P it's the reason i won't be around this weekend because I shall be enjoying the feast of fools

I do Amtgard in San Diego

I don't consider it LARPing because the RP part is just "Dude with a pole arm."
I wear the fencing mask because I don't like getting clocked in the face. It allows for plausible dependability on Facebook photos.
-
This guy in Akatsuki cloak though...
I always wanted to try LARPing, seems like alot of fun. I'd totally go for a large shield, and either sword or spear :p

I use to be in san diego... I totally wish i was super into this while i was there :P Any chance you are planning to attend 7 cities? It's suppose to be the cross game event.
-
The only event I go to is Battle for Andor, which is a Belgarth event held in San Diego. My wife does not do this, and so I have a hard time justifying spending vacation time going to an event where I am the only one having fun.
-
I do LARP too. Last weekend I visited a con. It is a longer campaign based on Diablo 2. On most of the pictures you can see just my back, but I found one, with me in a battle formation.

I am the one on the left side, with the helmet and a mace and shield.

nice what orginazation are you with?
-
Don´t know what you mean with organization. I am in a group called (translated to englisch) "Black Dogs". But Conventions here in germany are organized by small groups of LARPer and others can sign in then to take part.
Here is the homepage of my group, with a picture (where I am missing):

hmmm I almost want to support that park to be 100% honest so many people and it's awesome ^.^
-
Hey hampster you know they'res a park in crotia? WHo'd of guessed :P Someone start him a group in germany xD
-
I have been lurking electricsamurai.com so I have heard of the Croatian park. The fact there are other LARP groups in other countries does not surprise me. They actually have a historical record that goes back that far. It was a bigger surprise for me was that Southern California has a LARP community.
Also Terrkas, your garb and weapons look fantastic. I don't read German but the website looks very good too. What ever your group is doing it is obviously doing it right. I need to post pictures of my newer garb what I have are old pictures from when I first joined.
-
Thank you. I think in Germany the LARPer prefer weapons, that look more like real weapons. If you want I can link some shoppages, I guess you will not be able to understand what the names of the weapons are (except "Zweihänder"), but most of them are looking really nice.
-
There are different rule sets with different requirements for look and safety. I play Amtgard which has safety requirements like "tips and pommels may not pass more than half an inch through a 2-inch hole" so many of the realistic looking weapons would be illegal where I play. Also I have made all my weapons from pool noodle, tape, golf club shaft, and cloth covers. I have used plastidip LARP swords before when we had a visitor from another game, but have not tried to make/purchase one for my own use. In all honesty I play the game because I like hitting people with sticks not roll playing.
-
I love the A & S side of things but i love beating people with sticks more ^.^ also recently i overthrew the monarchy because.... politics.... so :P yay paperwork.
-
What is A & S? I am not used to that shortcut.
-
A&S stands for Arts and Sciences. It is usually a non fighting get together of the club to construct/repair equipment, discuss what games to run, and socialize with nice people.
-
What he said ^.^
-
nerds!! I would never do this because I'm too busy playing video games!!
-
lol It's a nice get away and athletic get out. It's a suprising work out if you get in on a big field
-
Thank you for the explanation.
-
I'll see if I can get my hands on some pic's for you after this weekend. And maybe some more once my thingys arrive from France...
-
yeah my brother is in darkon what a nerd
-
lol I get in trouble in darkon.... so I stay to amtgard atleast I don't try to actually murder people there.
-
what's the difference between the two?
-
one has way more hot chicks :P
-
I had a friend take a picture of my new garb and armor. The polearm I have had for over a year but I don't bring it out unless there are other polearms on the field.

nice

one has way more hot chicks :P
Is that why you get in trouble at Darkon?
-
no i get in trouble at darkon beceause i get overly aggressive tackling people in full suits of armor :P
-
you mean like

?
-
I did more of a football tackle because he wasn't taking hits and drug him back through our lines because he droped his weapon.... from there i proceeded to smash his armor with my great sword over and over again until he started taking the hits :P
-
That hurts. (the video)
-
I don't like the minimum force rule in some games. It leads to bad sportsmanship and over inflated egos. At my park we have a saying "you made the noise" when some one tries to sluf a gut shot that forced a little wind out of them.
-
Yeah we do that too... we call it an audible pop. this way we know it's an actual strike and not the sleeve dragging across the other sleeve.
-
I was referring to the air being forced out of someone's lungs by a gut shot. They can't say "leg" or "butter" when everyone heard them go "oof" from their opponent's last attack.
-
see we don't try to kill people but.... i mean if you have sluffers i see how that could be a thing.

A group of people are trying to revive the LA Amtgard shire known as Crimson Sanctum. Last weekend they had their first meeting since the park stopped meeting (I don't know how long ago). A group from San Diego including my self went up to pad their numbers and bring some loaners.
That is me on the left taking body mechanics with Downfall who is a fantastic swordsman. If you are in the LA area here is a face book link you may be interested in:

I LARP Guns of Icarus all the time, just pick up a mallet and run around hitting things.
Good times.
-
lol pictures or it never happened :P
-
I don't larp, but I do play quidditch, which like 5 years ago would have been similar to larping. Now it's more tackling and pain.
