Some of you may have seen my basic engineer costume on the facebook page or old forum; I've made a deviant art for future projects and various other things.
I'm working on Aurora right now! I plan to make quite a few costumes, as time allows.

Anyone else have anything in the works?
-
It'll be awhile till my beard is long enough to be considered costume worthy. Working on it, but it grows slowly.
-
I recorded a video for the interview/game-play Howard asked for on the Blog. If I am going to be on tape talking about a flying diesel punk airships, I had better look like I fly diesel punk airships:

I'll be appearing at PAX in this on Sunday.

If that's you; leave your phone number in my messages; if not; leave his phone number in my messages :P

It's 911
Be sure to request "R. Straining Order"

'Fraid I'm spoken for and quite proud of it. But I'll try and get some color photos from PAX as consolation.

I reckon this guy has a good idea that could be used for GOIO costume parts, http://youtu.be/Lz6VPoS3yvc (http://youtu.be/Lz6VPoS3yvc)

After many delays, I'm almost finished with the bodice for Aurora. I'm blending the original concept art in the artbook with the final in-game product. I misplaced two of my buckles, so the top straps will be done later this week and I'm still waiting for cogs to arrive for decoration.

I'm learning all kinds of things about sewing sherpa and fashioning grommets. I usually don't have patterns or tutorials to go off of, I just kind of figure it out as I go along.

Can we get married? I'll be a good husband I promise

Can we get married? I'll be a good husband I promise
Be careful about what you say, her real husband could come by at any moment :P

As with the previous one, great job

Yeah, she's already married to me.
Here's one of me cosplaying as a Marine 0311. I'm the guy on the left.

Except for how I'm not cosplaying at all in that picture.

Best response ever Charon. God I love me some jarines.
Different question, how did you get the fluffy neck thing to stand up without bunching? Is their a wire in it to keep its shape or did you stuff it with cotton balls or something?
And Charon, I couldn't wear the Molly without a scarf between my thoat guard and me, use to tear my neck to shreds. My supply officers advice to me was to stop working out as much and maybe my neck wouldn't be so thick. I think my pt coordinator almost lost his god damn mind when I jokingly told him about it.

It's basically a sherpa pillow. I bought two yards of sherpa for the project; I'm probably going to make sherpa pillow covers with whatever's left over. So. Comfortable.

Stop working out! Haha, that supply officer's trying to get you killed!
Especially with that version of the flak, a lot of us used shemaghs and other things to keep that spacer. I too suffer from "Giant goddamn neck" syndrome, and know your pain when it comes to that throat pro. Luckily, nowadays, everyone's using the plate carrier, which doesn't actually include neck pro. Kinda luckily, anyway. I mean, we all knew that thing wasn't going to stop a round anyway.
Quick project update: I'm putting together the shoulder armor from "The Way", the costume designed by Chris Piron. Should have most of the outfit done shortly, but I'm trading out the blindfold for an S-10 gas mask and tricorn cover.

Oh MY GOSH! Shukketsushi, that is so cool!
Yaaaaaaaaaay! Seriously, this is like, thing of my day x10.

I figured you might like to see some progress on this! Hopefully the rest of it will come together pretty quickly, now that I have my tools and work has settled down.

Christ those are some awesome costumes. It's nice to see people dressed up Steampunk-ish, instead of like Anime characters, for a change!
One question, why does nobody seem to have goggles? Just buy some old blowtorch goggles and add a leather strap over it or something, I imagine it would look quite amazing.
-
So far, everyone's done full costumes from the game. The ones that have been done already don't really have goggles. I can't remember if any of them do, originally.

Old welding goggles can be surprisingly hard to come across, the cheapest and easiest way I have seen steampunk googles done is actually by painting swimming goggles (no joke).
-
My wife found a pair of steam punk goggles at a convention. They consisted of a pair of threaded pipe fittings on a leather strap. They are very uncomfortable and look awful when put over my eyes. A friend of mine found some 1940's RAF goggles at an army surplus store, but I think I would have an easier time getting him to part with his left hand than to part with those.
-
Try Halcyon driving goggles (http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=19450&linkCode=ur2&pageMinusResults=1&suo=1366058813015&tag=saltg-21&url=search-alias%3Dautomotive#/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dautomotive&field-keywords=halcyon&sprefix=halcyo%2Cautomotive&rh=i%3Aautomotive%2Ck%3Ahalcyon)..
-
Omg those are perfect

Bodice is finally finished; added straps, secured the back, and added cogs. The arm warmers are presenting a bit more trouble than expected. Hopefully I'll have at least one done in the next week or so.
It doesn't fit my dress form very well.
-
Oh my. Very impressive! I hope we continue to see your progress on this!
-
Very impressive stuff Sushi.

I went to the Gaslight Gathering, a small Steampunk Convention in San Diego, and got my picture taken. Here is a link to the convention photographer's gallery:

Many of their costumes put mine to shame. If any of you are in Southern California (San Dego) in early May next year I recommend paying a visit to: http://gaslightgathering.org/ (http://gaslightgathering.org/)
-
Hey Hamster that's really awesome, I really like it
-
That's good stuff, Hamster! The Gaslamp Quarter seems like a great place for steampunk photos.
-
This looks nice Hamster, hmm I should make a costume and try to go next year.
-
The Gaslamp Quarter is the trendy bar and restaurant part of town. I don't go there that often because parking is a pain and I prefer good food at a reasonable price over expensive food with "atmosphere." The Gaslight Gathering is held at a hotel in a section of town with considerably better parking. It tends to attract a smaller and older crowd than the more famous Comic-Con. My wife is into steam punk literature and goes to attend the author panels and play dress up. My costume is mostly put together so she wouldn't have to put up with a scruffy commoner on her arm.
-
Looks good Hamster. What's that badge on your cap?
I've got the Steampunk World's Fair coming up this weekend, see if I can get some shots to post here.
-
What's that badge on your cap?
Looks like the Unity logo to me.
-
It is the Unity Logo. A friend of mine picked it up for me from the Unity booth at GDC. He knows how much of a fan of the Unity engine I am.
-
Looking good Hamster! I remember that from the "Why do you fly video" :)
-
Here's one of me at the Steampunk World's Fair this weekend.

-
That's pretty slick. Those boots are legit.
-
Nice, Zeb! I love the jacket; it's just like the dust-rider one.
-
Nice threads Zeb. The boots and jacket look great, but it is the layering that really sells it.
-
Thanks Everyone!
I wasn't sure if I had too much going on or not with this outfit. I've been playing with it for some time but I was happy with how it turned out. :D
The boots themselves are old themselves, I think pre-ww1. Funny enough I had to rivet on the straps because the cloth in the back disintegrated of old age so there was no way to keep them together otherwise, which in turn just worked out fine for the steampunk look.
-
I believe those are cavalier boots, which is kinda super funny because it has, in modern times, become a women's fashion.
You can find more similar to that style in uniforms for English horse back riding club gear.
-
I figured they were equestrian of some sort, I found them tucked away in a barn sale few years back.
Lamentably yes, a lot of late nineteenth century garb has taken that route.
-

-
I was a nay-sayer for the shoulder pauldron with my "It would be easier to make it out of something that isn't metal but can be made to look like metal" silliness but I really like the way that it's turning out.
-
Are you making the full outfit with the pauldron?
-
Yeah. Already got the majority of it done, just have to do the gi w/collar and dragon symbol.
-
Looking for a costumed actor to play a small part in a GOIO hype video I'm putting together.
Anyone interested feel free to contact me.

Got two full costumes over here, "The Way" plus tricorn and gas mask, and "Aurora" female engineer costume. Willing to hype the hell out of GoIO.

It'll be interesting to see what you'll come up with

That's badass. Just missing the airship.
-
I want to see someone cosplaying as a Squid :)
-
Deal. You supply the helium and I'll be a squid.
-
*snip*
Just wow.
-
Freakin awesome isn't it?
-
Still not quite done, but as soon as I've got everything motion ready, I'll throw up a parkour video in the gear.
-
Outstanding Job Charon!

I know it is cheating, but I found some steampunk Spats in the Haloween section of target's website:
They showed up in the mail to day, and they are made of synthetic material and have Velcro fastenings but look ok otherwise. Also I have abnormally large calves and they still fit even over my pants. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for some cheep accessory for below the knees, or any one who can't find riding boots their size.

PS I am totally not a target advertizing bot

Pics or it didn't happen!
ETA: I am now resisting the urge to scour the net and buy a bunch of steampunk stuff in Halloween clearance sections.
