Title: Hephaestus Challenge Tipping Thread

Similar to previous high level events, you may post Tipping here for the Hephaestus Challenge.

For each match every week, predict the winner and the score. One point will be awarded for correctly guessing the winner of a match (regardless of who the loser is), plus 0.1 points for the correct score (if both winner and loser are correct).

The participant with the most points at the end of the season will be awarded a costume of their choice from the store.

Tipping runs on a week-by-week basis.

Hatters def. Muse 5-1
Rydr def. DPA 5-1
GwTh def. Clamour 5-0

-Muse doesn't have the best track record, so Hatters shouldn't have too hard a time.
-The Rydrs are good, but I've seen DPA do well in the past. They can probably land a couple of kills.
-Thralls are good on a bad day and fantastic on a good day. I can't see them losing their match.

Anvil
TAW def. Cake 5-3
HRA def. MM 5-2
SIR def. SAC 5-4

-I've never been hugely impressed with TAW, but they've been working pretty hard lately. That should be enough to beat Cake.
-MM wasn't very good in the Sky League, and that's really all I have to go off of. HRA has a good roster, so I can see them managing a victory.
-A close one, but SIR pulled a victory out last time they faced each other, so I'll give them the edge.

-If OVW had their Sky League team, I'd call a 5-0. I don't really know what to expect from them now, however. Either way they probably won't lose to BFS.

I'm really hyped for this even though I won't be participating

-The hatters have been constantly practicing their builds and tactics. This should be a white-wash especially if muse use a merc flak spire.

-Hiller and Lue work amazingly together, but I'll give DPA one since Lue is "right off the bench" so to say.

-The ducks drill all their teams mercilessly, but I feel their experience just won't be enough to deal with thralls surprise ambushes. (Especially with Thralls' new use of the blenderfish.)

Anvil:
Cake vs TAW 5-4
MM vs HRA 4-5
SIR vs SAC 5-3

-Cake have pulled out some experienced pilots this time, but I do believe TAW will give them a run for their money

-This one's hard, I've seen both teams practicing, and zill is back in charge, but I just think holy and spqr have had a bit more experience with more recent events while mm is still kinda old school.

-SIR have played against Sac and won mostly. However I do know SAC have been practicing a lot, so I wouldn't discredit them completely yet.

OVW vs BFS 3-5

-Gilder and Brick have a lot of experience together, where as the new OVW team has not nearly as much. As long as BFS don't try to go super long range mercs and trip art (Hopefully they've learned their lesson), I think BFS will pull out a win.

Hatters trying hard with their double pyra, and I see them progressing from their Sky League performance.

Ryders - DPA 5:3
Both teams are superagressive, so I expect very quick game. However, ryders tend to relax when they are sure in their victory, which changes their playstyle to a bit slobby manner, that is why I give so much points to DPA

Glowwater Thralls - Clamour 5:3
I really hope duclkings will land couple of good kills on thralls. I also foresee a close game of 5-4 if someone stick with naive idea that brawl mobula would work. Also ducklings got a good spawn ^^

Cake - TAW  5:1
All my horses on Cakes. TAWs still need a lot of crew training.

Holy Roman Army - MM 5:4
I seriously dont know Merry men, barely seen them in games and if I remember, they did not performed well in sky league. Holy has some good playes, so does SPQR, and I fully approve the decision to fight as alliance.


SIRs - Sacrilege 5:4
Brawl map, agressive teams. I am 100% sure that game will be very close.
 

OVW - BFS 5:2
Really depends on who is flying on BFS side. Gilder-Daft could make a victory together, if they  had same expierenced crews as Overwatch has. From recent practice I got an impression, that new Overwatch pilots feel themselves very confident on Canyon, so I won't be surprised to tee 5-1/5-0 score.

Museosaurs bring a merc-flak spire and, since it's dunes and the Mad Hatter's seems to prefer pyramidions, Muse wins a shocking 5-2 match full of impressive heavy-flak kills (with a couple brutal deaths to ramming).

Ill add my reasons aswell.

Hammer
Mad HAtters are sure the better and more experience team. Not at their toplvl but still ... its muse ;).
Rydrs are one of the strongest teams of the more recent competetive scene. They got their amount of experience from Box socials and Sunday rumbles. They made a decent job in the sky league and they are so aggresive that a team like dpa with kinda low experience will most likely get surprised and wiped.
Thralls are really solid. They got alot of experience. They are really good. They can counter most strategies and a team like clamour with its kinda low amount of experience and their ducklike more passive playstyle will most likely fall into one of those thrall traps and get crushed.

Anvil:
While Taw sure isnt that bad cake fields alot of veterans. Not competetive wise but pub wise. And even if this is a competetive match taw isnt that used to competetive lvl either.
Both teams got their veteran players and quite a few experience. While MM havent played alot in the recent tournament i dont value collaborations to high as they tend to need their time to get used to each other. HRA might surprise us as Holy did in the sky league though.
This is surely one of the harder to guess matches. Both teams are at a similiar lvl. Both teams got quite a few experience in competetive matches and can react to what the enemy can bring.
But i still give it to SIR as i rate them a slither higher and their last confrontation also ended that way.

Cross:
This is surely not the easiest match. OVW misses a part of their team which will cripple them quite abid. Yes OVW got alot of experienced players and great ones aswell but they lack experience in competetive matches. BFS fields quite alot of experienced players and i think they can beat this ovw team. It will be close but they can grab their victory.


Upset of the week:
HRA vs MM
Holy manage to surprise most of us in the sky league when they stomped MM and grabbed first place in their group. SPQR got vets aswell and they might surprise me again.

From what I've seen, the Hatters have been working pretty hard lately, so I don't expect they'll have too much of a problem with Muse. They might be able to score a kill or two, but no more than that.

Rydr vs DPA 5 - 0
I'm quite excited to see Lueosi back in play. I don't think the Deadpool gang will be able to put up too much resistance.

GwTh vs Clmr 5 - 1
Clamour's been working hard, but I feel like the Thralls are just too experienced for them to pull it off.  Give them a month or two and see where things stand. That being said, it is possible the Thralls will take something experimental or unconventional, which might give the Clamour the edge. I don't see that happening, however.

Anvil:

TAW vs Cake 5 - 3
I think TAW's been working on their game lately, so they should manage to pull it off vs the Cakes.

MM vs HRA 3 - 5
I haven't seen many of the Merry Men on lately, whereas Holy and SPQR are pretty regular fixtures in the game. With Zill back, things might change, but I think that the HRA will emerge victorious here.

SIR vs Sac 5 - 4
If I recall correctly, SIR got the upper hand on SAC during the Sky League group stage. However, I think Tropo has been trying out some new builds and strategies, so that might up their a game a bit. I think this one will be close, but considering their past history I'm going to give the Rhinos on this one.

Cross:

BFS vs OVW 3 - 5
I feel like BFS has been in a bit of a slump lately - they need a bit of a strategic freshening-up to get back in touch with the meta, perhaps reduce reliance on squids and especially mines, which are just too easy to counter competitively if your opponent has his thinking cap on. That being said, I'm not sure what kind of shape OvW is in with their recent restructuring. I do know, however, that OvW has been putting in a good bit of time, whereas I haven't seen the BFS guys on as much. I'll give this one, tentatively, to OvW.

-Overwatch aren't quite the team they were in the Sky League, and with Lueosi the Rydrs are back on their A-game. Should be a comfortable victory for them.
-The Thralls are great, and Muse not so much. Not much else to be said.
-This one's a tougher call, but overall I was more impressed with The Clamour last week. It could go either way though.

HRA def. BFS 5-2
SAC def. Cake 5-0
SIR def. TAW 5-0

-HRA had a strong showing against MM last week, and BFS didn't do very well against Overwatch. If BFS go with something other than a Squid then they have a better chance, but I feel that HRA is just a stronger team.
-SAC is a solid team and managed a pretty impressive victory against SIR last week, so I expect them to also beat Cake.
-SIR is a decent team, and TAW didn't really set the world on fire against Cake. I see this one going SIR's way.

MM def. DPA 5-2

-MM may not have had their best match last week, but DPA made a real mess of theirs. Zill and co. shouldn't have any trouble taking this.

As i didnt had time to tell my reasoning this morning ill go with it for now.

While overwatch has a decent team their current crew isnt at the same lvl like the rydrs. OVW gainst bfs was kinda messy and showed that both teams havent got alot of competetive experience these days. Alot of minor things that make the difference. Rydr wont give ovw this. They are practised. They are aggresive and they will beat OVW imo. Probably not 5-0 but still clear.

Muse sure surprised gainst MH. They managed to get 3 kills and i give them credit for it. But thralls are a totally different thing. Muse doesnt have a style while thralls are the masters in their style. They are one of the best teams when it comes to adapting to the situation and gainst Muse they will surely win. I give muse a bid of credit that they may get their one kill. Depends on their crew.

I was surprised by Clamour in week 1. They managed to give Thralls a decent fight. When they practise more and get used to it they will surely be one of the upper tier teams. With the current shape of the MH im interested. It can get a real interesting match. Due to their performance i give Clamour the point.


I already said it for OVW. The first match between those two (bfs, ovw) was a bid messy. It showed that both teams either miss experience or arent practised enough. Thats why i give it to HRA. Sure HRA doesnt have as much experience as bfs might have. But alot of this experience is pretty old for bfs. Its a bid of a replay of last week where HRA deafeted MM. They sure are decent and got their experience but with practise their are beatable and im confident that HRA will get that victory.

Sac surprised me last week with their victory over SIR. Cake surely got a decent team but the experience of SAC will probably get them the win.

2 Teams at a different lvl. A decent competetive team with some experience and a newcomer who just started and misses experience. I clearly give it to TAW.

Both Teams lost their first match but i value MM higher so i still give them the victory over DPA.

I believe in OVW. They are doing amasing job on their practice. Hope the will land several kills

GwTh - Muse 5-2
Muse surprised everyone last week, I give them chance to land 2 kills. Thralls are still good, but so so so unreliable =)

Clamour - MadHatters 5-4
I expect close battle of metamidions)

Bully Boys - Holy Romans 3-5
According to last practice, Bully boys are progressing.
 
SAC - Cake 5-3
I love  Cakes, and Kirk does amasing things sometimes, but Tropo has such a handsome voice =)

SIR - TAW 5-2
Go,  Rhinos ^^

DPA - MM 2-5
I don't know Merry Men, but Deadpool loves blind charge too much, which can be punished easily.

-Glowwater Thralls are definitely one of the strongest teams, and as much as Mad Hatters aren't the worst either, I believe that the Thralls' experience and skill level still will be overwhelming for the Hatters.
-The Clamour have quite the big shoes to fill for Mandarins, and as it stands they do give quite a show, beating Hatters and causing trouble for Thralls. They will definitely take the win against Muse, though I expect a slip as usual for the benefit of Muse Team.
-Overwatch definitely have quite unique style, and they are more experienced than DPA, but they tend to heavily focus about disabling strategies, which I expect may be to the benefit of aggressive Deadpool team. That being said, other than few kills caused by being caught out of position I think OVW experience will win the game for them, together with a little effort.

-I understand that TAW may have trained hard, but I don't think it's to the level of many other teams yet, including Sacrilege. SAC in my eyes would be undefeated if not for the time restrictions during their last match, and defeating SIR is a proof in itself that they are a force to be reckoned with.  Hard to say what will be the main factor for the match result here, is it yet too little an experience from TAW, or incredibly good performance from SAC. Nevertheless, I expect it to be quite one-sided here.
-This is one of the toughest matches to predict. Cake showed us that they are incredibly powerful team, that is wise not to be underestimated, but I've been a witness of SIR training quite alot this week. Add their overall competitive performance and you have them as winners, though I'm sure this will be a close, and really exciting match.
-Now this is the match I expect everyone to be excited about. From my perspective, being quite a freshman in GoIO competitive community, I can only judge it by the performance of both teams during their matches. I expect MM to take this one, for even if they still need to get the dust off their playbook and rust off their ship engines, they seemed more reliable with their performance in the Hephaestus' Challenge than BFS, that indeed do try to think outside the box, but it's yet to work for them effectively, especially since they have the same issues as Merry Men, being dormant for some time.

-HRA did well in their matches, but it was against the teams that still struggle with their performance and only warm up for more serious games. This time they'll stand against a much more experienced team, and Rydr, of all the teams possible (self advertising). I believe that this game will be quite intense, but if we Ryders will manage to get the pilots we want, we should be able to take the win. Good Luck and let's have a good game HRA o/

Nothern fjords is so dammed imbalanced map, where just the spawn place would give you 40% to victory. Thralls have red spawn, and their domination is obvious. Also, Oracle mentioned yesterday, that Hatters have a new pilot for the team, which could weaken  them as well.

Clamour - Muse 5:2
Awwww, I am so glad that our small paddling of ducklings finally migrates from fjords! I hope this match will be fun and tense.

Overwatch - DPA  5:1
Dunes Red Spawn, Overwatch doing really well last days and FluffyHetshe in the team - these are three factors, which tell me : Deadpool fleet will break before they manage to rush the enemy! But sniper's matches already gave unpredictable results when Cake got their glorious victory over Sacrilege. I don't know if Deadpool army can snipe though.

Sacrilege - TAW 5:2
I suppose SAC will fight with all their fury after last week, and canyons will help them in there.

SIR - Cake 5 :3
I am a real fan of Kirk now! Cake did amasing job  by this moment, but SIRs are strong rivalry. I expect an interesting to watch, tense battle.

Merry Men  - BFS 5:4
By this moment Merry Men performed nicely, and Bully Boys did not. But! BFS got a cool red spawn over there on Fjords.  Can't really predict this match, but I expect this to be close and intense as well. No clue what wil be, if they go for sniping.

HRA - Ryder 5:4
HRA already dominated on Duel and Ryders have 2 replaces in the team because of schedules issues.  I expect a close game, and if Ryders, despite my prediction, win this, I will get drunk to celebrate!

- Muse gets wildcard players every once in a while who can really change a match. I can see this as the upset of the week.

- ♥ Overwatch, they can be overpowering in comparison to a DPA team still trying to find their stuff.

SAC def. TAW 5-2
- SAC can be overpowering, but I think TAW might find something that works - they're working on their own to find their identity. I'm pulling for them to break their kill-less streak.

- Cake can be cohesive, but I see SIR as getting in a groove this week and taking an early advantage.
MM def BFS 5-2
- Zill and his crew can make a run back to form, and I think this week might be it.

Rydr def HRA 3-2 5-4
- This could be a very good match, but I'm seeing a timer match in this one. We've seen it come into play a few times, and I see it here - two teams riding the tops of their divisions might be stuck playing a cautious game. (I hope I'm wrong - I'm a thrall gunner - pls brawl pls)

-EDIT: LOL, didn't read map rolls right. Close match, long match, very strategic, but Rydr will come out on top. If it were Dunes, or Fjords, I would keep my 3-2 prediction. Not on Duel.

Going Through the Scores Grayknight was actually the only one getting points in the Hammer Division this week. He correctly predicted a 5:4 Win for Muse.
Actually noone got his Upset Points this week. Most people set their upset on Cake beating Sir.
Just to explain it once more. The Upset of the week is a fun part thats running besides the tipping that has no influence in that.
You can put a match as your upset of the week which means you think the opposite team of your prediction wins. No need for a correct result.

- Muse + Xemko = x-factor. If he's on a LJ, DPA doesn't stand a chance. If he takes the week off, DPA has a shot. Last week, I picked Muse for the gunner-factor, this week, I do the same.

- HRA eats teams. I'm really glad we don't play them until the elimination stages.

- MM, I just like them. I have illusions of the old grandeur that was Zill's team. It will happen. I don't know if it will be this week, but I will continuously pick them to my own dismay. (Plus, I owe them that for a youtube video from many moons ago that includes some colorful metaphors directed at their team :P )

Upset: MM beats cake

I give this thing to muse cause they establish a decent play in this tournament and if they get a similiar crew like last week they surely can beat DPA. Dpa also surprised last week but imo that was more due to mistakes from ovw than for great plays of dpa. If muse puts the correct focus and gets a good crew they can beat dpa and give us a great show.

HRA beat alot of great teams and is surely one of the new talents. And with TAW they face a struggling team. Sad for taw but this should be a clear victory for hra.

This was very hard to guess for me. I give it to Cake cause besides last week they always showed that they can compete at this lvl. Something barely anyone expected before the start of hephaestus. They sure have the skill to beat MM. It will be hard but they can pull it off. MM managed to beat bfs last week and they could beat cake aswell but i just think cake showed better up to this point.

-Muse is a team that's really hard to predict the score with right now, especially against DPA, that did not have really impressive matches either. The problem with Muse is that many members of their roster is a mix from any other clans, which can be highly advantageous for them, but another drawback is their tendency to take controversial builds, which most of the time backfire rather than work as intended. DPA on the other hand had a really tough time, first facing Rydr, that had the experience advantage over them, later on fighting against Merry Men, where I believe their trust in double metamidion is what lost them their match. That being said, they managed a really impressive victory once they brought a double banshee build, which highly abused the flaws in OVW playstyle. With all that being said, this match is really hard to properly predict for me, with both teams having little experience, but with Muse possibly having more veteran players in their team to their advantage, but not necessarily having the best ship choices, and DPA, that's finally started to think about their strategy. I put my horses on DPA with this match, but it's only because they're stable with their ability to pull off a victory, whereas the everchanging Muse squad and controversial picks may or may not be Muse's key to victory.

-There's no doubt about this match, HRA being currently at the very top of the bracket in both Divisions, versus TAW, that are yet to get the first kill. I'm sorry to say that, but HRA outskills you guys. I do hope you'll get at least that one kill somehow.

-As much as one would think this is an even matchup, I think that Cake will take this without much problem. Merry Men had alot of trouble dealing with BFS, which I don't think of a really powerful team right now, and Cake is giving people quite a fight in every single of their matches. And I believe that their aggressive playstyle we've seen against TAW will bring them victory against Merry Men as well.
If by any chance I'm wrong about that, and Merry Men will take a convincing win against Cake, I'll be happy too, for where I previously have seen BFS and MM as kind of rusty, and currently weak teams, a win against Cake will be deciding factor for me that MM is coming back, ever so powerful.

-Muse had been doing a good job, and DPA has only managed a win against a poor choice of build by Overwatch. I could see DPA winning if Muse has an especially bad week, but I don't think it's likely.
-HRA has been one of the top teams so far, and TAW has yet to score a kill. Sorry TAW, but for now I expect that to continue.
-A bit of a tough call, but I've been more impressed with Cake than MM lately.

If the Clamour stick with the double junker build they will have a large advantage over OVW. The match will depend on how well the Ducks can cover each other and how well OVW can split them up.

Rydr 5 vs 0 Hatters

Rydr have a strong team build witch other teams (including the Hatters) have tryed to duplicate. If we see their ace pilots flying in this match it will be a clean sweep for Rydr.

BFS 2 vs 5 SIR

I have not seen anything special from BFS in awhile. I love the use of mines from this team but there style is just too passive to make good work of them. SIR are always reffing their builds and crunching the numbers in order to find the best setup to suite their style. I predict that BFS will be very passive and snipe from their spawn while SIR sets up a flank.

GwTh 5 vs 1 SAC

The Thralls have become the best team in Guns of Icarus every sense  the Mandarins retired from the competitive scene. SAC will need to be very aggressive if they want to defeat the Thralls this week.

-The Clamour kinda struggled last time out against Muse, but they've gone through some restructuring since then. OVW is a pretty inconsistent team right now, so I feel that the Clamour will be able to pull this one out.
-Rydrs are really, really tough, and the Hatter pilots don't have much competitive captaining experience. This probably won't be very close.
-SIR has been more impressive than BFS. Despite the map the match is on, BFS will probably take some sort of sniper build and wait back in their spawn. 
-GwTh should have this one pretty easily, but as usual they'll probably give up one or two kills (those awesome flanks come with a cost!)

Overwatch I think will find it's stride this week. They've had a tough go of it, but we know what they are capable of. I predict a quick match with OVW taking the initial engagement, and trading kills until the end.

Anvil
HRA def. SIR 3-2
This is going to be an intense, strategic match. My thoughts is that it ends in a timed decision, especially given the map. Both teams have a lot at stake - HRA is looking for that K/game ratio to go above GwTh for the overall lead, where as SIR is fighting for their spot in a very tight Anvil Division. Medium range, conservative engagements will decide the day.

MM def SAC 5-3
I'm really pulling for Zill and company to get on their horse and strike back into their Division. They still have a shot with a win this week to stay competitive in this tournament K/game ratio may not be great, but they need a win badly to stay in contention. I still think MM is a sleeper team, and if they find their stride, MM is one of the strongest teams in competition.

BFS def TAW 5-1
BFS has had a tough go of it this season, but TAW still struggles to find their footing in this tournament. With 2K to 19D, TAW is 10 kills behind BFS. They drew a tough map with Paritan, and I see BFS pouncing on this opportunity to get their first win of the season.

X-Division
Cake def MUSE 3-1
Dunes. Xemko. This sets up like a sniping duel for the ages. However, Cake's coordination is much better than that of MUSE. I see a match where Xemko on the LJ pops Cake balloons all day, slowing down the match, but gets little to no killing support from the other Museosaurs ship. Cake will approach, render LJ useless, and strike. Timed decision, 3-1.


Upset of da week:
Tough to pick one this week. With the exception of the DPA vs. GwTh match, every match pits teams who are right next to each other in the standings. However, there is one possibility that I see:

SIR def. HRA

Some might not call this an upset because of these teams being the top two in their division, but I do. HRA = undefeated.  HRA has been dominant in almost every engagement of the tournament. They have only 5 deaths over 4 matches. The prospect of us (GwTh) playing HRA later in the tournament does not put me in my happy place. However, if SIR can take advantage of the spawn and take the arch, they could control the engagement and come away with the win.

Of course, Ryders are more skillfull team, but we are practicing and progressing a lot. Another factor is the map - Dunes made large amount of matches in Hephestus turn to unpredictable scores.  I am going for my team, and I won't be sorry to lose this tip.

Glowwater Thralls  -   DeadPool's Army 5:2
Thralls are home on Paritan. This map is probably their best. However, DPA progressed last weeks, so they will probably be able to land couple of kills.

Mad Hatters  -  Overwatch   4:5
It will be a really close match, and it's hard to predict who wins. From the expierence of former matches, I'd say Overwatch are more confident, and all they miss is taking explosive damage on battlefield XD

Sky Invading Rhinos  -  Holy Roman Army 3:5


Merry Men  - Sacrilege  3:5
Last week MM were flying terribly, but Sacrilege are also extremely unpredictable guys. They can do well, they can suddenly drop performance belowe zero.  Based on current division rankings, I'd rather give victory to SAC.

-The Clamour has been making some great progress lately, but for now I'll still give the edge to the Rydrs, especially with this match being on Dunes.
-Thralls won't lose to DPA unless something goes seriously wrong.
-A tough one to pick, but I guess Overwatch will probably take it... But if they continue to focus too much on disabling, this could go the Hatters' way.

-HRA have proven themselves to be the best in their division, while SIR has had fairly mixed results. HRA should have it.
