Sorry to break the meme train but I feel the biggest thing this would fix is accidentally ending up in the lobby as the wrong class. A wrong loadout is forgivable, as dropping out, changing it, then rejoining isn't too difficult a process. However, if you join as an engineer and the ship you get placed on would need you to be a gunner, there's no fast way to fix the issue if you do not have multiple friends in the same lobby.
Plus, if you join and you end up on a ship without a pilot because of a rq or whatever, you won't be fixing much of the problem. If you can see that issue before joining, switch to pilot with the appropriate tools, there would be many a crewmember that would love you for helping them put up more of a fight.
