The Squid actually works pretty well flying backwards. In fact, if you have three engis, it puts the third engi close to the engines and balloon.

That happens whenever you miss with a harpoon.
That happens whenever I try to use a heavy flak or lumberjack.
Letus:
With a junker, attach all five harpoons onto one ship 10 times.
Destroy 200 balloon from less than 300m with a lumberjack.
