I have hit someone with a shovel.
Turns out sweating profusely on your hands while trying to move dirt makes it pretty easy to throw...

Was it on purpose?

No, because sweat drops are hideous villains, that want to make you do stupid things.
So even if you didn't want to shove a shovel in someone's face, your sweat did.
