Oculus Rift support in the future?
« on: March 25, 2013, 02:46:14 pm »
I'm getting an Oculus Rift when the consumer version is released, will Guns of Icarus support it?  I bet being in the environment with the Oculus Rift would add so much to the experience.

Unity supports it:

GOI is built with Unity, so I can assume that if it isn't supported currently, it will in the future :P

Isn't GOIO built on Unity 3.x? There might be comparability issues if it the Oculus Rift were developed for Unity 4.x .

Unity is almost always upwards compatible. 4.x will be able to use all lower itterrations programs

Nope, GoIO is now building off Unity 4.x (see also: we now have a Linux build).  I can make no guarantees about Oculus Rift support at the moment, though; I expect we would need to do some work of our own to make the game actually playable on the Rift (this is always how it works, regardless of what the engine tech says).

This is a video testing the game Goio with Vireio application that converts normal for a stereoscopic image, for use in almost any type of glasses.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-oKJ-HwYfQ

In this case I was trying to be compatible with Oculus Rift. And the result is pretty good at first glance (for lack of having the glasses to view).

Vireio you can get the program on its website: http://www.vireio.com/ & http://vire.io/

To work in Goio only have to add in the file .\Perception\cfg\config.xml the sigueinte Online:
Quote
<profile game_name="Gun of Icarus Online" game_exe="GunsOfIcarusOnline.exe" game_type="500" separation="0.00282" convergence="0.025" swap_eyes="false" yaw_multiplier="25" pitch_multiplier="25" roll_multiplier="1" />

Then run .\Perception\bin\Perception.exe and immediately start the game Goio.

Now you have the game to your 3D glasses.

I'm sorry, what you wrote there makes no sense, could you type out a specific guide?

Has anyone else had any luck with the VIREio thing?

The youtube video certainly looks like it is formatted correctly for the Oculus, but when I tried it with the devkit here, it either displayed normally or crashed the game on start.

If anyone gets this working, please let me know what steps you took, and include which version of VIREio you tried and your computer set up (especially video card model and driver).

Thanks :)

you don't put that line into the config.xml, you put it into the profile.xml at the end, but before the "</profiles>". make a copy of the file, as you will surely want to change it back. It doesn't work well, and would need some tweaking. if you jump into a gun and move it around it's pretty disorienting as it won't move at the speed of your movements.

I'm using Vireio Perception 2.1.6 - I took little steps beside adding that line to the profile.xml - I have an Nvidia Geforce 570
