Heavy Piercing weapon?
« on: June 29, 2015, 12:27:54 am »
Anyone think there might ever be a Heavy gun that deals a decent amount of Piercing damage? The H. Flak has no soulmate! The Minotaur might as well be shooting puffs of air.

I kinda want this to happen, but if it did Muse'd probably nerf the H. Flak to the ninth underworld to prevent Pierce-Flak Galleon broadsides from becoming meta.

Note that is General Discussion rather than Feedback and Suggestions because I'm not suggestin that Muse should make this gun. I just want to have a discussion on this topic!

Let the discussing begin!

Would be too basic for something like a heavy gun, if a heavy piercing weapon would be added, it should be in an extreme way.
The heavy flak is the most basic heavy weapon, but it is extreme in being able to kill in 1 or 2 shots.

So, either an extreme, or an oddball. Something that diffirentiates a heavy weapon from the light weapon equivalent

I am of the opinion that minotaur already pairs well.  The Galleon already gets a light slot to fire a hades, a mercury, or a gatling to pierce armor.

Combined with light guns that can easily 2clip kill a ship with hull stripped that weapon would be OP. I think Devs once said that piercing heavy weapon will never happen.

Ahem...

Maelstrom.

Piercing/Piercing quad oversize Vickers machine guns with insane rate of fire and bullet spread with high reload time. New falloff damage mechanic (opposite of arming time) would be needed to make it viable.

Original thread of conception.

There we go! That would actually work well, as it would probably have a shorter range than the H. Flak's arming distance, preventing too much in terms of meta Galleons.

Until we use Loch...

Tix Plicky had this cool idea for a heavy piercing weapon that would fire a single-shot cannonball that would be very difficult to aim and have a huge drop, but would do significant piercing and impact damage.  Kind of similar to a heavy mine launcher.  This is sort of what I had hoped for with the Minotaur when I heard it was going to be piercing + impact, but it was woefully a piece of crap.

Let's invents something new. A taser harpoon. No reeling in ability. It fires twin cables at an enemy ship. Once engaged, it fires up a large dynamo, 'tasering' the other ship and doing substantial piercing/fire damage. Gunner has to stay on the gun to keep the dynamo running. Cable breaks at max length.

Muse have not said it will not be a thing, infact they often throw the idea about during their meetings (I was talking to Howard about this subject :) )
They are however looking at what weapons from co-op they can put into skirmish.
One thing to keep in mind, co op will bring new stuff too!

I dared mention it before, but some called me mad. Mad they said!

*a foaming two hours later*

*Ahem* I like the idea of having more guns, especially those that encompass different mechanical areas. Be it a cannon, giant gat dakka or electric madness, it makes me more hyped up for what they might put into co-op.

I think we've had many ideas tossed around about a heavy piercing weapon.

Personally, any one of them is cool. But personally, I'd like to see the minotaur tweaked first.

For a new gun, the minotaur was rather, well, disappointing...

If they felt like testing for a genuine heavy peircing weapon buffing the minotaurs damage upwards until the game breaks could be a good start, it would give some better idea of what will and wont break the game.

As it is the light weapons seem to have maxed out on plain armor damage and the piercing + gimmick minotaur was decided not to have high damage. Something with gattling like damage but lumberjack like aiming difficulty could fit, maybe the cannon or taser harpoon ideas above could do that.

I'd rather have the old HF back. The weapon that actually had some piercing on it and was powerful enough to blast away armor if engineers didn't repair in time. The glory days of Flakfish shall rise again!!
