Is/was needling a thing?
Arturo Sanchez:
So many ships have little horns and pointing bits clearly meant to do piercing dmg.
But does it actually exist or did it ever exist?
Awhile ago I heard a thing called needling where chute vent stomping with a spire caused instant death. The balloon would pop (like full health to popped) and the hull would follow.
And then ground and ram dmg would kill.
But on the contrary, goldfish has a horn but I've never popped a balloon with a balloon ram besides my own (hence I always ram with hull and with those I do pop if I ram direct to balloon with expected dmg to me regardless of whether i ram the needle or the side of balloon of a goldfish)
BlackenedPies:
Impact damage is dealt by the ship not the contact component. So ramming with balloon deals the same impact damage to the target as ramming with hull. Impact has different damage modifiers so ramming with balloon causes much more damage to your balloon relative to ramming with hull.
Extirminator:
It also doesn't deal extra damage with specific parts of the ship ramming like the nose of the pyra or the tip of a spire.
Arturo Sanchez:
why even have those pointy bits then?
the spire would be much more improved if it didnt have that spike that apparently does nothing.
Extirminator:
Not everything has to have a use, its just a ship model.
