The one in the car I usually drive is pretty straightforward.
1. You set the speed to the one you want maintained
2. Hit cruise.
3. Enjoy
4. When speeding up, cruise returns to the desired speed once you lift your pedal
5. When you brake, cruise is automatically shut off.
Simple!

Also, sea captains on a mediterranean cruise.

After playing Guns of Icarus, I sometimes subconsciously drive my truck like a Squid, that is, fast and daring.
