So I necroed that background thread with this song and while listening I thought to myself.

"Hey, sea Leviathan? Grabbing onto boats? Awesome idea!"

It would most likely take a lot of effort, but I'd like to brainstorm either way, what if you had, for a start, a monster that latched onto your components, and disallowed you from repairing it? Perhaps you could just make it so that smacking it with a mallet quite a few times would make it go away. Or, you could use a fire tool to shave them off or even load Incendiary Ammo to the guns! Imagine fighting one of these on a galleon. Gunners would have to consider incendiary instead of heatsink!

Or a monster that could throw you off the ship? Tear apart your balloon in literally seconds?  Or one that strikes a few fire stacks on literally every component with such a hard strike that it would break the chem cycles? Or one that would take out 1-3 completely random components instantly with an ice attack-ish burst BUT also automatically chemspray them?

I'm gonna sleep in a bit, will try to come up with more tomorrow :-X

Sky whales is something being pushed super hard by the community and I suppose they have to eat something? Large swarms of sky krill?

What little we know of the lore involves a catostrophic event poisoning the world/creating large dust storms and otherwise making travel by land and sea unfreasible making the sky as the only way to get things done, maybe nature found a way and we should see more fantastic sky borne creatures aside from birds

Carn:
I'm pushing to make Sky Whale Riders a thing, also sky kraken could be an awesome natural enemy to the sky whale

Saull:
Maybe there can be a new biological weapon type in co-op based off the natural defenses of these sky monsters. You shoot a bunch of sky krill/parasite things at a component and they'll act as fire stacks but instead of damaging it they'll just render it unusable until they're "whacked" off by a wrench or mallet. Which could lead to some neat animations for that scenario. Or a gun that sprays a horrible green acidic sky kraken ink that is like tar cloud but damages hull armor and/ or balloon instead of components

Another idea. Sky jelly fish electric harpoons that shoot out three weaker pulling harpoons at once and damage the component of whatever they're jammed into

Carn:
or you could shoot sky krill at them, and that would attract sky whales to attack their ship. sky barnacles could also be a pest
