Helmic:
The #2a, #2b, et cetera are extraneous, if you don't know what the cogs mean those little hashes and numbers and letters aren't going to mean much to you anyways, they're not even legible on the smallest cog.  What they instead accomplish is take up room on those tiny cog wheels so that not everyone's logos can fit.  It'd be more space-efficient to just put the number in the middle of the cog and drop the hashes and letters.

Squash:
But without them it gets extremely confusing which matches are coming up the following week.

Helmic:
Arrows, those can be put outside the cog so they're not competing for room with the logos.  Not to mention the hashes themselves communicate nothing but take up the most space.

Squash:
Actually yeah, that's a good point.

N-Sunderland:
I think that the number should be in the centre of each cog, with the letters (without numbers) in the sections. Then just leave the hashes out completely.
