It's just conjecture right now, and it might be coincidence. Birds seem to follow ships, much like dolphins in water. If this is true, seeing birds flying in circles could mean a ship is approaching. I need to test more though.

N-Sunderland:
Qwerty said that he knows how the birds' flocking works and all that. Maybe he could shed some light on this?

Wow you might be onto something, especially if they use the birds as tests for the AI planes.
