Additional pilot tool - greased balloon
« on: August 21, 2014, 06:40:23 am »
-Decrease both angular and longitudinal drag by +(some meaningful percentage)%
-Can cause damage to balloon or hull per second to balance out its use
-Slight engine thrust decrease

The intended effect of this is to allow your ship to "drift" or strafe sideways using existing forward/backward momentum.
No intended lateral speed or turning speed increases so moonshine/kero and claw is still prefered for doing what they do.

Cool!
Crab-like strafing, drifting :P

Would be quite hard to pull that off in a galleon, but rather rewarding!

This tool would actually play into an idea I have been pondering. Turn you ship the way you need to behind cover, and have an ally push you into firing position. With less drag, you would be a lot easier to push. Squid pushing a Galleon sideways into battle.

I like the idea but...galleons already have guns on the side. They are actually the ship that needs the least amount of pushing into battle XD

Also, MULTIBALLOON DRIFTING?!??!?!

I meant advancing on the enemy team, not taking cover.

Instead of damaging balloon over time, make it double damage taken from fire stacks.

That makes sense when you cover your balloon in a flammable substance, right?

That would allow for a whole new way of movement and it could be rewarding for good pilots, although it seems OP for a galleon if it can both move forward and have guns facing on a target at the same time

Well, the tool name doesn't have to be "Greased balloon"

You can call it "Extra rudders" and have it DOT some other component

I can also imagine what would happen to your ship if you get rammed or bump a building in labyrinth with this on.

Pinball anyone?

It could actually be very helpful in a ramming situation, especially for Squids. Generally, you can't maneuver far enough away to avoid a second ram. Kicking this on would let you bounce away and give you a bit more time.

I like the name 'Greased Balloon', though.
