How's the Networking Hotfix Treating You?
« on: June 18, 2014, 11:15:35 am »
The recently released hotfix to 1.3.6 should have cleared up a lot of networking issues, but this sort of thing is highly variable.  I'm trying to get a sense of if there are any remaining issues, and how widespread they are if so.

So, how's your lag doing lately?

I have heard of a few people still having lag issues with fire, though I no longer have that, and I don't think that was a network issue. I have also had the occasional missing hit marker, like one shot out of an Artemis clip. It is harder to tell with other guns.

There is a respawn issue where you can sometimes not see ship markers for about ten seconds or so right after you spawn, even though they are marked on your map. I get this one all the time.

No rubberbanding ship issues that I have noticed, though the rear deck engine run on the pyra is still rubberbanding while kero or moonshining forward.

While it's not entirely unrelated, the "rubberbanding" you describe when jumping around ships is not the same as the "ships stop for a while and rubberband forward" issue, which is the one I'm interested in for the purposes of this poll.

I see a lot of disconnects and such but I personally haven't had them. Lag is no where near as bad as it was before the patch. Thumbs up Muse!

I am seeing what seems to be worse lag joining existing matches....  a dozen seconds or more of client lockup often combined with a looping ~1 second of voice chat 10 or 12 times.

However I assume this isn't something you were polling for so I voted "An occasional issue, less than once a match on average."  (maybe notocable only every 3 or 4 matches and less severe then in the past)

I notice lag when other players connect or disconnect from a match in progress, often times new players joining a match mid game can kick people already playing in that game. Overall the rubber-banding happens a lot less frequently, occasional freezes are still an issue and I have experienced 3 instances of slow-mo since the patch. Player teleporting has been for the most part fixed, but using ladders can still be glitchy.

A little late to the party, but the rubber banding you are interested in is still prevalent in "Raid on the Refinery." It occurred the moment combat between ships began and lasted sometime after combat had ceased. It was bad enough that one team surrendered and we boycotted that map... We didn't notice it on any of the other maps.

Note: Flamers were in use, approximately 1 per ship. This may of had something to do with the rubber banding or "slow mo..."

4v4 today, all mines, zero lag. Last time we tried it, everyone was moving in slideshow.

Whatever ya guys did seems to be effective!

I had a tiny bit of jitter and double-firing mines on Canyon ambush with all those mines about.

yesterday I had a lot of issues, particularly with rubberbanding while leaping from the top deck to the mid deck on a galleon.  in the same match I rubberbanded and started to fall through the middle of the ship, but snapped back - and the sound for falling off the ship to my death played, but I stayed on the deck.  have had some issues with the game pausing briefly mid-match as well (is that the type of rubberbanding you're looking for?  I don't know what's actually happening), with spotting, periodically with hit markers, and occasionally choppy voices in chat that are not normally choppy over the last two days.  don't know if it's all related, but thought I would mention.

when you guys first implemented the hotfix, I actually saw a lot of relief in the lag, but now I'm less sure what's going on...and maybe last night was just a particularly bad night...

Only played for almost 6 hours total, but I've never had any rubberbanding effects, even when I've been playing on NA servers (e.g. 150~ ms latency).

Edit: Moved text to List of suggestions thread.
