Imagine La Cucaracha being the last sounds before a galleon emerges from the clouds and rams straight into a squid, life flashing before the eyes of their humble crew as the pieces of ship fall straight to earth.

Perhaps a vuvuzela to give it that sporting feel, or the siren of some goliath.

Maybe we could sound a submarine alarm before we start diving the ships, shrapnel exploding around us as the captain frantically tries to bring it out of range.

It would give the ships and captains a lot of character, although it's a bit different than the typical "cosmetics" present. But, for vehicles, I think this just may be the essential personal expression of a steamship crew in combat. Also, it seems to fit quite nicely into the lore, although we would need to make them more worldly than the examples pasted here.
