[Critique] First Impressions - GUI
JareelSkaj:
Hi,
I just bought the so got some fresh look on a game, and as far as in terms of gameplay - it looks really great - GUI leaves me few things to wish for. Hope you'll find it constructive :)
* Lobby - doesn't remember last settings, forcing user to set his filters over and over again. Really frustrating
* Lobby - from all of the filters there, the most useful one is missing: Region. I want to limit my games to the EU, yet I can't and need to fish them between US games >_>
* Lobby - there is no option to sort games. Eg. I'd like to sort them by number of ships in a battle to try playing as a captain, but there is no way making whole process very difficult as list keeps on refreshing so more often than not I can see games disappearing right from under my cursor
* Lobby - font size. It's gigantic. I can see 8 games on a screen that could easily fit 12 or more given some normal size of a fonts (res 1080p here)
* Progress window - Prizes - Redeemable - why exactly do I have to redeem prizes manually? I stumbled upon this option purely by accident. And I can't recall when I seen something like that last time o_O Can't you just display a notification after the match if I have an option to unlock something - like pretty much every other game out there?
* Ship menu / Shop - just one tiny note here cause otherwise: It's great. Ships paint is very underwhelming. It's applied only to the balloons and it's got very low tint (if that's the right expression) - paint seems to be very transparent in comparison to the paint on clothes. It'd be also great to have an option of applying paint to the wings or external hull armor.
* Practice Mode - It doesn't offer practice against AI ship? Even if I pick 1vs1? Interface never gives me any hint what am I doing wrong and why I can't start a practice 1vs1 match. Perhaps if player clicks ready and he is the only human in the lobby - game should give a hint that more players are required to join in order to start a battle?
* Game hints - Spyglass - could use a hint in game on how exactly to spot the enemy (I also found myself trying to spot friendlies... really had no clue how to differ friendly from the enemy unless someone else spotted them for me during first few matches... now I know there are some tiny flags in color of a faction, but.. >_> )
Other than that - well done developers! I really enjoyed my with with the game so far. Looking forward for more customization options - already bought my pack for a character, really adds to the charm. ;)
Omniraptor:
There are no AI ships except tiny dummies that you create by pressing a button in practice. 1v1 is human vs human.

What he means to say is that in every lobby, practice matches included, there must be a human player in every captain slot, and a majority of the captains must have clicked ready. If both of these conditions are not met, the game will not start.
JareelSkaj:
Yep. And if you run practice match 1v0 - everyone in your crew are AI. If you'll pick practice 1vs1 - you won't be able to start a match, and the game doesn't explain why.
Mattilald Anguisad:
It's becouse crew can be AI, but the commander can't be. Commanding a ship consists of way too many decisions - more than you realise. Not deciding to do anything might not be an active decision for a human, but for AI it is an active decision to do nothing.
Co-op mode seem's to be cheating a bit by not having any actual crew (it's still in early alpha development stage, but there was a live presentation on offcial Twitch chanel twitch.tv/gunsoficarus and on last Pax).
