A way to check on your mates

Many times I turn on the game just to see half-empty lobbies and no friends online - I'd really like to have an option to check who of my friends is online (and maybe the amount of people waiting) without turning on my game. It may be something bigger - like battlelog from battlefield 3 \/
Or just small app showing the Social bar (and maybe allowing to write messages). What do you guys think?

Well there is the steam Friends list, but I don't give my Steam account to people in this game. The ability to see who on your friend's list is currently in game would be a nice addition to this webpage. Especially if they are on a ship that has an empty crew slot.

oooooh.  I like it.

I use Steam for that to a degree, but I only have a few friends and my clan on steam.  most of the people I enjoy flying with, I don't have their Steam accounts - and I don't really intend on asking all of them, that'd just be crazy.  my friends list is huge.
