Yeah, this or maybe even like a steam workshop thing
Richard LeMoon:
Leonardo Da Vinci's workshop theme (aka, Science and discovery). Telescopes, flying machine models, maps, geographical globes, drawings, scrolls, sextants, etc.
AscendantWyvern:
I like the idea of a Smuggler/Merchant/Cargo Runner theme. Crates lying around, maybe a cot or two, etc.
Battle Toads:
I don't think anyone has mentioned this so here is my idea:
The Breadbasket
Essentially it would be a farmers theme for your ship (an air fleet needs food as much as it needs oil) and it would have lots of potted plants/trees (we all know we love those orange trees on our ship) it would also have bushels oh hay, rain water troughs, flour mills (wind powered and the hand powered stone ones) and last but not least, a pet Sheep named Billy that provides the ship with nice wool and a tasty snack in dire situations.
Kieran Kindree:
I know it's probably a little thing to most and would likely take a lot of effort, but it really bugs me that the lamps and decorations hanging from the ship (especially in the Royal decoration package) do not ever move.
When the ship makes maneuvers, they should swing and sway a little bit. When they just remain static, they look silly and more cartoonish than the rest of the ship and detract from the overall look.
Additionally, I'd like to see more items like astrolabes or steampunk gear like barometers and maybe working windchimes.
I think it could all go a long way in taking the game beyond simple zerge-fest skirmish mode.
