Delay match starts for ship changes.
« on: March 28, 2014, 06:41:35 pm »
A lot of planning goes into countering an enemy team's ships and loadouts. I have noticed that some captains will wait until the very last second, and suddenly change their guns or ship so the other team can not react. This can be match ruining. I suggest two things:

If all captains are not ready, add time if a ship is changed in the last 20 seconds of the countdown, and give a visual indication that said ship has been changed.

-or-

Unready the changed ship and give a visual indication that a change was made. Block the 'Ready' button for 10 seconds.

I like the idea, But Is this still needed with matchmaking on its way?

eh, i dont really see the problem with it. people complain about waiting in the lobby enough as it is, i dont really wanna hear more of it. especially when someone just keeps switching ships to mess with the countdown.

granted, the rapid switch is alot easier in the age of preset loadouts. it still is kind of an interesting facet of the game, that posturing in the lobby can be an extension of direct combat with the enemy.

why not just lock the ship loadout, as long as your are ready?

I have brought this up in one of the earlier dev chats and they said that matchmaking will fix this.

Matchmaking starts no matter what after the timer expires.  No readies are necessary.

Hardly a fix in my opinion.

This sounds terrible...

its is pretty bad i had no time to set up my crew for a galleon and i didn't really wanna take a galleon
all the other times i tested i went n with pre made crews but having a ship that dose a bit of every thing was the way to go
there no combating what the other teams has because you won't get a chance to even check load outs

I can't remember the exact wording on the proposed fix, it was on a fireside chat a few weeks back. I believe they said changing the ships will increase the timer until the match starts. I had not tested (and to this day, as the dev app was having steam problems for me, have not tested this) on the dev app, but if the proposed "fix" will allow you to change ships at the last second after all, it doesn't really seem like a real fix to me.
