3/15/14 - Aerodrome Episode Five: Folly of Nations
« on: March 12, 2014, 08:04:13 am »

Welcome to the week five program of events for Support Your Local Aerodrome!

Narrative is not ready yet, will be posted later

This is it! The final chapter, the last hurrah of Support Your Local Aerodrome. Special thanks to all the teams involved and all those who put in work to making Aerodrome happen each week. The event hasn't been without it's problems, but my thanks for the patience and helping deal with things as they have come.

As such, after the event we will finally be holding a community chat. All teams are invited to attend. It'll be a time I've wanted to have for awhile to really hash out what worked and what didn't. Also to bring out some highlights of the past matches.

So here we go, the Folly of Nations is at hand!

Final Battle: Refinery
Teams: The Merry Thralls vs Crimson Rhino Ryders

With the mercenaries finally vanquished and the Tiger falling back behind their defensive lines, the Ryders are taking a well earned breather, or so they think.

Taking their time to repair, refuel, and rearm at the refinery, they enjoy a few moments of peace to raise a glass to their fallen brothers who gave their lives for this victory. But such pleasantries vanish quickly as a shadow looms over their celebration and an old foe darkens the sky with silhouettes of vengeance.

The Merry Thralls, are back.

Thanks to a little mercenary bird whom whispered the location of the Ryders, the Thralls have burned hard overnight to arrive at the Refinery where the Ryders are holding up.

There will be no honor in this battle nor glory in fighting it.

They say animals are most dangerous when wounded and this battle will be no different. It is a battle of blood and revenge as the wounded Tiger no longer sees friend or foe, but lashes out fiercely at those who have left it broken and bleeding.

If the Thralls win, their bloodthirst will be quenched, but at how high a price? There will be no parade should they return. Only a nation in turmoil, it’s leadership in chaos.

If the Ryders win, they will be celebrated champions in Anglea. But will the lives of fellow countrymen lost to secure the victory be worth it? Anglea may have won, but the price has been high. Will it be even worth the resources? Or will the greatest prize of this war be the lives of the survivors who rise from the smoke and fire to see the dawn of a new day and pick up the pieces?

Either way, somewhere someone, is grinning as pocket books fill with the blood money this conflict has brought. But every good business man must be willing to give a little back when necessary and maybe, just maybe, the survivors will receive a shiny reward in exchange for the horrors they have witnessed.

A small token of affection to keep them warm at night as memories of the folly of nations remain with them forever.

Nitty Gritty

Streaming channel: http://www.twitch.tv/cesports

Time will be 1pm EST/6pm GMT Saturday.

Teams are requested to be in game and start forming up 15mins prior if not sooner. Bully Buddies and Scorekeepers will have lobbies preloaded and ready to go well in advance and passwords will be given out ahead of time too. Teams may join in and start filling their lobby at any time during the event, earlier the better. But they will be requested to hold off starting until all clear is given. The match ref/scorekeeper will handle that.

We will continue to use both the Aerodrome Steam Group and the Skype group to communicate between the teams.

Reminder to everyone that Americans invented poor man's time travel last week and moved our clocks ahead 1 hour. So for people in other countries, the event will start an hour earlier.

Due to confusion around the time change, the event may be postponed a little bit. Heads up for those tuning in early.

CRR did great, but wasn't the winner supposed to be a fraction? Anglea or Yesha + mercenaries.

Great tournament idea, great RPG elements and really good games :) Everyone had fun.

Scoring system and additional 5th round pretty confusing though. Wasn't the score difference so high that we knew the winning fraction after 3rd or 4th round? Or did rules change in the middle of event?

Yeah winner was Anglea, that was decided last week. Not really anything you can do about that. It was all up to the teams playing. The teams participating created the story by their wins or losses. Yesha just didn't have it this time.

The final round was the top scoring teams facing off kinda as a final showdown. The event was about factions but we still wanted to give individual teams an incentive to do well for their faction. Hence the different badges and the final showdown event.
