No gun side shield option
« on: December 19, 2013, 01:38:37 pm »
Lately I have heard some complaints regarding the light guns on the side of certain ships because AI may get on them or players that should be on another gun, my friends wanted to remove a gun completely and that gave me an idea. What if Muse created a shield that either reduces damage from that side greatly or blocks shots completely until the shield itself breaks and needs repair, that way you could remove an unused gun and give the space extra purpose!

I wondered what the rest of the community thought about this idea.

You can place a mine or a flare. Ai dont use those. Most certainly a mine launcher.

I once suggested light weapon slots for components. For example a boost to engines with a new component instead of a light gun. Still love the idea of light guns being something else completely... Dont know how that can play out.

It would be interesting if the weapon slots could be used as mount slots for other things, though that would introduce a whole new dimension for balancing.

Even if it was possible to just not mount a gun and get the natural speed/manuvering boost of having a lighter ship would be good!

I approve of where this idea could go :)

I think that's actually really a cool idea! I like the possibilities here.

You could finally have a true 'Rammamidion' with all 4 guns being unusable :P.  It would be fun to fly, but I probably wouldn't want to crew one.

'Padding' for negating some damage, or 'Battering rams' for inflicting more damage. I could imagine a medium battering ram being a popular choice on a Goldfish.

Great idea! I'm very interested in the different mounts people come up with.

Manning the components for them to take effect.

Or the components can have super little health.

Ok, so there is the, increase engine output component.
There is the increase baloon meneuvering component
Automated Buffer that buffs in a slow pace.
Automated repair that repairs in a slow pace but no rebuild.
-armor damage taken component
-Health damage taken component...
Walk speed increase component...
-Baloon damage taken component.

But those are just components

Then there is the mentioned padding and ramming components.

I mean, they shouldnt be too significant. But atleast something to make a bit of difference. Cant come up with anything creative.

Pretty cool idea, less guns = lighter, faster ship and less confused AI. I support that idea.

But what I'd really like to see is the ability to remove components like the engines to make it light.. Yeah!.... a Squid that can't move at all would be hilarious.
