Lochnagar Shot
« on: March 14, 2013, 05:13:07 pm »
This ammo type is seldom used... It needs to be buffed in some way. Its completely worthless on guns with high ammo capacity(that have high mobility, but the damage ratio increase is negligible), and only 'useful' on the low ammo capacity weapons(Like the mercury, with low mobility). Removing the mobility completely on a weapon that relies on accuracy adds a huge handicap.

I'm not actually sure why Muse removed lochnagar's mobility in... 1.1.3. or 1.1.4. It wasn't overpowered before that, and it's really hard to use now.

Not sure exactly what their reasons were, but I know I was using it to insane effect in the medium flak on a pyramidion. Heavy shot on approach, single loch shot prior to ram, ram damage kill.

Im not sure why they removed its mobility either, but it is not impossible to use. It was always meant (im my eyes) for heavy weapons. Its for that final kill shot, or that one lucky shot that ruined the other boat's day when it hit. High risk high reward ammo.

High risk - high reward? Considering that it's use is VERY situational and reward isn't really that high considering the time You'll spend rebuilding your gun (Yeah, I know that it aren't destroying Carronade on which it's almost viableish).

Guys from balance knows what they are doing most of times. vov

This is the situation that I was trying to prevent.  It was something that we were seeing higher level players do frequently.  It was only a matter of time before it would become the go to strategy.

It seemed incredibly effective, so I can't say I disagree with the changes made to Loch. I think that now, at least, the downsides to Loch are pretty on par with the payout. High risk, high reward. Makes sense.

I really like the concept of an ammo that requires the gunner to precisely direct the pilot, but I also don't want it to be so effective that everyone's just expected to be able to do that to be competitive.

Egh... Well, that stinks that it was so effective. It also stinks now that I think the ammo is too difficult for me to use without an already-established pilot-gunner sort of thing. I guess I'll just stay away from it.

Sounds choice. If you want a boost in power, though, charged rounds work extremely well.

To me Loch was never OP before because two charged shots did more damage than one Loch shot.

It was a very situational ammo type with limited uses, but when done right, could be spectacular.  The gunner would often have to bring mallet, which meant he couldn't rebuild anything.  With the changes in the rebuild times, that would have probably been all the balancing you'd have needed for Loch.

Right now it just seems it's been nerfed out of use.  I'm the sort of person that likes everything in the game to be useful and in use; so perhaps it may never be what it was in 1.13 but I'd love it to be something that people would have a reason to want to use over other ammos.
