My build back then was merc flak.

I used to roll with that build too, using lochnagar on the merc.

Dunno if the Pyra is the easiest ship to fly, Goldfish seems to come easier to me in that regard. Usually fly a Galleon anyway.

Only time I hate flying against them is when in a 2v2 on Dunes and they both are running double field guns.
Don't know why, but the throttle on those things seem to be always stuck on "full reverse".

It's a valid tactic, it's just rageworthy ;)

Still think you can do some interesting things with the Pyra: Trying to pull off ever more creative ramming techniques never fails to amuse.

Pyras are the easiest ship to repair for.  Their vital components are close to guns  and the engineers don't have to run as far as they do on the other ships. Arguable the squid has the most convenient component positions, but it also has hull armor as thick as toilet paper which makes flying/crewing a little more stressful.

I disagree about the Squid having the most convenient component positions.  Though the hull and balloon are easily accessible to a main engineer, the 4 engines of the Squid are insufferably difficult to maintain for the crew and in a squid, speed is life, and engines are more vital than the hull.

Galleon is by FAR the hardest ship to pilot.

Funnest.

I really enjoy taking a galleon out in pub games as a pilot (it's fair, im a terrible pilot). It is hard to fly, but man - when you organise your crew, and your opponents say 'dat galleon'.

Well...

Well, you've made it.

not so bad if you use the strategic gaps in the railings to get about, you can shave seconds off the travel time. As for crew if they get the ship priorities you can survive pretty well.

Hard to master maybe, but out of the box, a squid and spire are harder.

We seem to be using different definitions of "difficulty of piloting." Does "hard to pilot" mean:

Difficulty turning rising and accelerating.
Difficulty organizing a crew to be effective
Skill needed to not suck at this ship
Skill needed to contribute to a team with this ship
Skill needed to dominate a game with this ship

I would say the Spire is harder to fly.

Consider the fact that its made out of glass, still requires more than competent gunners and engineers to keep it up as long as posible while having 3 decks. Its low durability doesn't allow for many mistakes either while giving your ally minimal time to save you from a bad position.

Again Squash is enjoying his argument of harder to fly vs everyone else's argument of harder to win with.

I thought that was the important part, flying comes down to positioning with both of these ships anyway and positioning with both is equally hard :P

Vacations aren't doing good to my gaming life, anyway.. salutations to everyone!

If you're taking "harder to fly" to mean "it's slower" then yeah obviously galleon is harder to fly, but harder to win with is really the only meaningful benchmark. Anyone can fly any ship around a map quite easily.

I'd say squid and spire definitely require more piloting skill/positioning. Sure galleon's hard to maneuver, but you can stay far away and just turn broadside to your enemies. Pretty simple.
