3Ds Max, rendered with Mental Ray.

Still a WIP, tho. Any thoughts ?

That's super cool!

I'd love to see where you would put guns on that ship.

I was thinking (if I were trying to design something that could theoretically be used in-game) they would be on the bottom platform, where the boilers are. Two heavies, front and back. Then a light on either balloon, probably facing the sides. The ship would be crazy effective head on, but would have almost no defense against someone above and behind it...

But, I figured I'd just try to make it look as cool as possible instead. Needs some big engines next, then lots of detail.

A little more progress. Going to use belts & pulleys to link the shafts to the flywheel. Then I may add a wheelhouse, and perhaps some catwalks & gunnery platforms on top of the balloons.

I'd actually love to see a ship like that in-game. You could give it a lot of fore- and aft-firepower (maybe three light guns forward, two back...or even a rear-facing heavy gun, which is something we've not seen before) and make it have great acceleration, but poor turning. The balloon would be somewhat vulnerable, being on both sides, but would serve to protect the central components. Thus, the enemy would need to enter your firing arcs to get a clear shot.

This is awesome!

Small hull hitbox, but huge balloon one.

*sigh* If only we could do barrel rolls...

Looking at that, I am thinking of a 360 degree rotating heavy gun on the bottom of that. Keep up the great work!
