Out of curiousity: I'm sure there are a lot of nationalities around, but what's the usual playing timezone? Mostly a US timezone? Or some kind of 'smorgasbord' of various timezones?

Well I'm GMT. I know a few are GMT+1 and there are a few americans too.... I say few because i have not personally met everyone in cake yet.. :/ its hard to get in every timezones usuall playing time to say hi xD

Definitely a smorgasbord of playtimes.
We've got people in both American coasts, scattered across Europe, even a few in Australia.
