What did you name your ship and why?

<< < (41/64) > >>

Dr. Thorne:
I named my Goldfish the ''Hoopy Frood'' cus its just an amazingly together kinda guy

Allen Fierte:
Death Weapon Mister Academy (DWMA) Fleet

Squid - DMWA Scout: Grass grows, birds fly, sun shines, and brotha' I hurt people.
Goldfish - DWMA Fighter: No better name.
Pyramidion - DWMA Light Assault: Speed and attack.
Junker - DWMA Seeker: You can run, but you can't hide.
Spire - DWMA Command: Because it looks like a command ship.
Galleon - DWMA Heavy Assault: I am heavy weapons guy.
Mobula - DWMA Close Assault: Flax, and flames.

Sammy B. T.:
I finally flew around (semi) seriously in a Mobula last night. In honor of my go to ship the Admiral Quackbar, I wanted to have a name further fleshing out the story of Mr. Quackbar. Therefore I decided after leaving the armed forces, he was able to use a military loan to further his education.

The Mobula therefore is called the "Ducktor Quackbar"

Eukari:
Because I am a moron, I made a whole new (unnecessary) thread for this elsewhere. We will now commence pretending I did not! Good day!

My (current) ship names:

* Junker- Not For Hire
Named after a riverboat from Phillip Jose Farmer's "Riverworld" series.
* Goldfish- Southern Sun
Technically named after the ship from the awful movie "Space Mutiny," as seen in the amazing Mystery Science Theater 3000. I just rather liked the way it sounded, and it fit the autumnal colors of the 'Fish.
* Spire- Because It's There
After George Mallory's (in)famous response as to why he climbed Mount Everest.
* Galleon- Henry the Navigator
After the king of Portugal who helped jump-start the Age of Discovery.
* Squid- Fortunate Son
Another one I just liked the sound of. You also need to be pretty lucky (or crazy) to fly a Squid.
* Pyramidion- Rhamses II
Duh.
* Mobula- Stavromula Beta
She's build like a steakhouse, but she handles like a bistro.

Mepic Von Shreck:
Goldfish: Hercules, because Hercules is fantastic. That's really the only reason.

Galleon: Minotaur, due to its size and power.

Pyramidion: Die Nachtigall (The Nightingale), as I am really, really into German Romantic poetry. An Die Nachtigall is one of my favorite poems (and settings by Schubert and Brahms).

Spire: HMS Apfelbaum, as it is shaped like one. If a 4 year old drew one, that is.

Mobula: Letzte Hoffnung (Last Hope), because, again, it's a fantastic poem (Wilhelm Müller) and the Mobula I can rarely use unless I'm playing with my regular crews.

Junker: Liebentflammten.  Despite the fact it's just an adjective, it runs with the whole Romantic setting the other ships are named in (love-enflamed).
