Experience on Forums
« on: February 25, 2013, 12:07:51 pm »
First off, I must say again that this game is awesome and I'm really happy that this forum is not only active, but frequented by the devs and admins. From someone who's played many games and seen how they rise and fall, this is very important.

Now, to the question, how often is the experience shown along player's profiles updated to reflect the current experience levels in-game? Is this an on-going process? I've noticed that these forums are new and that functionality might still be in the works, I was just curious.

Hi, Psyran,

Thanks for the kind words. I'm happy this forum is active, too! :)

The forum account is hooked directly to the game account, and level changes should be (essentially) instantaneous. I checked your account, I'm not sure why it's not synced. I manually set your ranks to your current level. It should update the next time you level up, but if it doesn't please let me know and I'll look into it!

Ok, sounds good. I'll definitely update this post after I level again.

Thanks, awesome dev team! Keep up the amazing work.

Heh, should have just added a new reply instead of editing the old one. I set your ranks manually, but I'm curious to see if it updates when you level up!

Hmm, you joined just over the weekend, eh? I'm seeing a lot of 1/1/1 users on the forums now...it looks like any players who joined since the new forum went live aren't getting their ranks updated at all. I've sent off a message to our database admin to investigate, hopefully we'll have this fixed up soon. After all, we don't want you to be forever noobs...

Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

Not a problem, I'll still post updates on my observations. Thanks for the amazingly quick response!

Ah, now there's an idea!

I levelled up to level 9 in all roles last night. I magically jumped from 2 to 9 for Pilot. Just like that. Manually upgrade it now, please :P

How long is an instant? It's been about half an hour since I reached level 3 captain (and I'm not joking this time :P), and nothing has happened yet.

Hmm, so it's not just new players, either.

Hold tight, everyone -- we're looking into it!

Ok, here's what we found out: the forum got out of sync with the game server when we went down for a patch last weekend, and it's actually kind of tricky keeping them together. We're looking at other ways to keep the forum updated that doesn't involve doing regular massive updates for thousands of player accounts...

For right now your own info should update whenever you log in to the forum (by entering your credentials -- "forever" login with a stored cookie won't update your info), and we're working on ways to update info more frequently without resorting to a huge database dump.
