For generations, the twin oasis cities of Nalm and Sylka have been at war, ever since the wandering nomads of the Dunes captured the Nalm oasis and sent its former inhabitants fleeing to their sister city Sylka for refuge. For generations, the stretch of sand between them has been a battlefield, collecting the wreckage of downed ships and countless spent shells, as the Sylkans try to reclaim their heritage and the Nalmese try to defend their home.
Today is no different. The fleets are assembled, comprising Nalmese and Sylkan ships, along with their allies and mercenary fighters. The Mercantile Guild, which operates a sizable guildhouse in Nalm, furnishes the city with warships in the hopes of discouraging Sylka’s aggressive sorties, which dampen trade and deplete resources that might otherwise flow into Guild coffers. Ships from the Fjord Baronies in the east fight on the side of Sylka, uninterested in the regional politics but drawn by the promise of generous pay and access to Sylka’s skilled weaponsmiths, who supply the Kingseat with top-quality armaments at discount rates.
